Scripts and configs.

Search revealed a few vague bits and bobs.

Can someone plz shine a light on "legitimate" scripts and configs.

I just checked my stats over at www.csports.net and I obviously need all the help I can get.

Specifically, I am often caught out with weapon changes. My old ET habbits run deep, and I tie my fingers in knots trying navigate scroll or even to remember which number relates to which weapon, while doing a Tango/Foxtrot to avoid the onslaught of enemy fire.

I realise that this will rate high on the newb-o-metre.

My game has improved dramatically with practice, but I am sure there is more work to do yet.

Cheers in advance :cheers:

If I have duplicated an existing thread I apologise.....................

I suggest removing next/previous weapon binds and just bind a button to each weapon to have access to them one button-push away.

Here is a link to my config if you don't know the binds to use.

I try to reload after every frag or fight, then pick up the weapon my opponent dropped, then move on to get health and armor and more frags and fights.

Just practice, practice, practice ;)

Kewl...... cheers m8............................................. :thumbs:

i've never had problems with using next/prev weapon, but then again i almost always use the shotgun to the exclusion of all other guns.

Just remember to have a quick easily reached button for the grav gun, it will save your ass

You do know that some weapons reload by themselves...

In Q3 I have the gauntlet (the only melee weapon) at my easiest-to-touch-button, but in HL2DM I put the gravity gun there :) At first it was because there were no melee weapons, but after they came I still prefer to have it there =)

Yes of course. It would have been weird if I hadn't figured that out yet ;) but I mean if I've had a fight and it ends with me having ammo left in my weapon, but not a full load.

i know the pusle rifle doesn't reload itself until you tell it to, i think the shotgun does though. I've never actually sat down and tested each weapon. I just noticed that glitch every once and a while

care to give a list of which ones do and don't?

All the guns reload automatically when the clip runs out. (Provided the trigger is released.)
Especially low-ammo guns like the crossbow or RPG

In fact, if you are holding a weaker weapon and you pick up some ammo for an empty (but more powerful) gun like the crossbow, it auto switches to the crossbow and simultaneously auto-reloads it.

RPG does the same thing too, but only when you pick up the ammo while the crowbar/stunstick is equipped.

Any advanced player will have his/her 3 to 5 most used weapons bound directly to quickly and easily reached buttons. Scrolling is simply too slow in the heat of a fire fight. Any combo action is also impossible with scrolling. Say you're on someone's tall and you're filling them full of MP7 lead and then quickly switch to the shotty when you get close enough to finish them off. Or you nade or RPG someone and then switch to the i-rifle or MP7 to finish them off. Suppose you come around a corner and you have a split second to switch to the crossbow for a one hit kill.

I'm left handed so my config would be useless to most of you, but in general I have the MP7, shotty and crossbow bound to the 3 keys above my movement keys, i-rifle and rpg above them and lastly grav gun and crowbar to buttons beside my backwards (movement) key. I always have my middle finger on the forward key. This has two benefits: I rarely ever stop moving so I'm a hard target and it helps the rest of my fingers from accidently getting mixed up and hitting the wrong key.

I have bound all weapons except SLAMs to their own keys. That's really the only way to go.

There is a bug that swithces away any weapon when it happens. If I use crossbow and run out of ammo, then switch to magnum (which is listed in the game as more powerful which it isn't after it got tweaked), and I use it and still have ammo left and I walk over some bolts, then it switches back to crossbow just like that and reloads it.. Very annoying. I've also had this happen to lots of other weapons just because I used them and ran out of ammo and manually switched to a weapon where I had ammo. The weak/strong relationship doesn't matter when it switches like this, so I assume it's a bug.

What are these guns you speak of? Crowbar all the way. Btw binding keys gives you cancer.

I speak about the weapons in HL2DM...

  • bind * "use weapon_slam" // The S.L.A.M.
  • bind * "slot1" // Crowbar as Rebel and Stunstick as Combine
  • bind * "slot5" // Grenade .. and S.L.A.M., then RPG, but selects the others first
  • bind * "use weapon_crossbow" // Crossbow
  • bind * "use weapon_357" // .357 Magnum
  • bind * "use weapon_pistol" // 9MM Pistol
  • bind * "use weapon_physcannon" // Gravity Gun
  • bind * "use weapon_rpg" // RPG
  • bind * "use weapon_ar2" // Pulse-Rifle
  • bind * "use weapon_smg1" // Submachine Gun
  • bind * "use weapon_shotgun" // Shotgun
This list will bind everything to the *, so change that to whatever key you want that weapon bound to. You don't have to remove the gray text (the // and everything behind it) as stuff with // infront of it is looked on as comments in the config file.

Just put this in your autoexec.cfg and save it to your Steam\SteamApps\usernamehalf-life 2 deathmatch\hl2mp\cfg and it should be executed every time you start your game.

I have the SLAM and grenades bound to the same key, so I can quickly switch between the two with a press of Q :)

I need a mouse with more buttons though tbh ;(

Yeah, I have the same, but I hardly ever use SLAMs though, so it doesn't matter.

I don't use any scripts, nor do I bind weapons to any keys, yet I can defeat clan members and skilled players alike. I'm just too used to clicking the slot keys multiple times.

The only guns that don't automatically reload are the SMG and OSI. I don't think you guys are understanding what I am saying...

If you shoot a Revolver, then switch to another weapon and wait for as long as the time it takes to reload the Revolver, then switch back, the weapon will become fully reloaded without you even seeing the animation.

Here's a more detailed explanation, which is in my upcoming guide:
==================
===| Automatic Reload |===
==================
You can reload weapons without actually going through the reloading animation!
Automatic reloading is this technique's name, and it'll easily prove to be one
of the most essential things you'll have to learn in order to be a great HL2
DM player. Also, remember that this will not work for the MP7 and OSI.

To do so, well, there's not much you really have to do. After using some
ammunition, just switch to another weapon and wait for a certain period of
time. Here's a list of how long it takes for each weapon to automatically
reload:
- H&K USP Match: As long as normal reload animation
- 357 Magnum: As long as normal reload animation
- Shotgun: As long as reloading 6 shells, does not reload any if interfered
- Crossbow: Twice as long as normal reload animation
- All other weapons don't neccessarily have an automatic reload, as they don't
reload.

The Automatic Reload technique is great during combat when you have no wall to
hide at in order to reload. However, if you need to reload with either
Automatic guns, look for a good place to hide, or just reload quickly.

I made a quick script that fires the gravity gun rapidly, useful for firing objects super far and fast. Also useful for getting on the roof in dm_runoff :)p), but it usually kills me when I try to do that.. too powerful ;(

// movement

bind "HOME" "+forward"

bind "INS" "+moveleft"

bind "PGUP" "+moveright"

bind "END" "+back"

bind "DEL" "+charge"

bind "i" "+reload"

bind "RIGHTARROW" "+jump"

bind "ENTER" "+speed"

bind "DOWNARROW" "+duck"

// actions

bind "MOUSE1" "+attack"

bind "MOUSE2" "+attack2"

bind "ESCAPE" "cancelselect"

bind "TAB" "+showscores"

bind "ESCAPE" "cancelselect"

bind "y" "messagemode"

bind "u" "messagemode2"

bind "=" "combine"

bind "-" "rebel"

bind "x" "exit"

// weapons

bind "MWHEELDOWN" "use weapon_smg1"

bind "MWHEELUP" "use weapon_shotgun"

bind "PAUSE" "use weapon_357"

bind "PGDN" "phys_swap"

bind "LEFTARROW" "use weapon_physcannon"

bind "p" "use weapon_Ar2"

bind "UPARROW" "use weapon_frag"

bind "o" "use weapon_crossbow"

cl_defaultweapon "weapon_smg1"

//

My advice is to have everything you need one button press away. The only slot selection I use is for grenades/slam/rockets on the up arrow.

*mustbindcrowbarmustbindcrowbarmustbindcrowbar*

Yes my keys are a bit crazy to get your head round. But they work :p

I'm glad that kind of scripts are banned in HL2CCL ;) Unfortunately not on CB :/

Pha+s hows that lan coming along?

Well it all hinges around the new building my work are accquiring.

This part is pretty much done now.

I am awaiting some confirmation back from the powers that be with regard to EULA's. This is neccessary as we will fall outside some of the terms and conditions with regard to End of year all out winners prizes. UT2k4 has a $5000 limit.

We are in the process of polishing the website, dotting i's and crossing t's.
There is a bit more work to do yet so the rather optomistic early start we had hoped for will be somewhat delayed.

I want it to be a professional affair that offers every visitor a good time with high speed connections and a great day out.
It is planned to run it every Sat and Sun from a permenant location.

As soon as we are ready to rock I'll be sure to post it on this forum.

Sorry for the off topic comment but thanks for the enquiry, it's encouraging to know that peeps are interested. :)

Cool, I look forward to it.

If you need a hand with any web/graphic design stuff give us a shout. Be more than happy to help you out.

Has everyone completed ignore this post?

Not ignored at all sir. A very interesting idea.

If I read it correctly, when you have used a weapon 50-60-100% of ammo and switch to another weapon, providing you do not switch back for XXseconds, it will reload automatically.
If you switch back too soon it will not have reloaded.

This should encourage people to use combo weapon kills. i.e "a quick blast of this and finish the job with that".

Try shooting two double sg blasts, then click reload, then switch to smg then back to sg. Full gun, provided you have ammo.

You don't need to hit R to reload. However, with the shotgun, even if you used only one shell, it still takes as long as fully reloading a shotgun. Also, the SMG doesn't automatically reload.
