Just got my most recent PC gamer today. Iit has an interview with Gabe. Bad news.

Fromthe interview

"PCGAMER: You're opening the doors to mod teams a month before HL2 ships. What criteria do modders need to meet to get the full hands-on treatment with the Valve Team?
Gabe:More than anything we pay attention to what has the attention of the community. If people are talking about a mod, if there's a lot of activity on the various Half-Life websites, then we try to give more attention to the mod team creating that enthusiasm. Part of what teams will have to do to get access to the sdk is show up at a workshop here in Seattle...

WE HAVE TO GO TO SEATTLE?! THIS IS CRAP!

Well... i hope thay pay for the flight :)

But i think its only pre-release thingy for good mods....the SDK will come out before the game.

Aww cmon, thats a bunch of crap. I guess well be waiting longer for most mods...

Which PCGamer is this... in the UK?

Seattle??? That is very unfair, and totally against what Chris Bokitch told me "Valve will make sure that all teams get a fair share"

hmmmmm

The US version October 2003.

has a cool cover. Doom 3 guy and gordan standing back to back.

no, the sdk will be available on VERC for download, but if you're a mod team and you are actually capable of making a mod then you're invited to seattle for a workshop.

notice the question was about mod teams and "full hands-on treatment" (the workshop). how else could you get full hands on treatment? home workshops? fly the valve team out to every 14 year old who thinks they can mod, heh.

maybe by access he meant something like..kowledge how to use it? i don't think that they'd limit the access to the sdk that much.

it's just the pre release so that some select few mods can get a headstart! :)

hmmm how ironic, a Team Member of Op: CO-IN is currently visiting Valve :)

then why were you all like "OMG WE NEED TO GOTO SEATTLE FOR THE WORKSHOP?!?!?!" wouldnt you have already known before it was in a magazine?........

I dont think its really BAD news... Just a bit unfair. But then again, Valve will immidietly see which teams are hardcore and proffesional, and which are not. Or which are lucky and just happen to have someone in Seattle. The really unfair part comes to the fact that many happen to be European (or Asian or Russian or whatever, its just that I happen to be one of the unlucky bastards...).

Edit: Hrm? What happen to my sig? Its still in the CP...

When you use the Quick Reply thingy, you need to click the "Use sign" or whatever.

Anyways, im with you here, Europeans are unlucky :) But we will get the SDK before the game...so chill out..

It's just kinda funny, becuase I got told that there would be a european release (a workshop I mean) as well. Hmmmm, no worries, we'll still try and get there :)

I am interpreting this as, if you want to be able to send emails or call valve with specific questions reguardin your mod, they want to know you are a dedicated mod team and not like 3 teenagers who will probably abandon the project half-way through.

OOn another note, being that I live in Seattle, if anyone wants to makes me a non-working part of their team...

They have answered alot of specific questions by nonmodders and fans, why would they suddenly limit themself to dedicated modders? At any rate, I doubt you can fill in for a team, the Allmighty Gabe will see straight through you :)

Ugh, I already know how the fileplanet non-subscriber lines will be... 947 minutes remaining..
