SDK problems ALREADY?!

alright this is ridiculous. the model viewer crashes when i try to open it... you think these problems would be resolved by now but i guess not. good going VALVe

Ok sorry for asking this but how do you restart steam?. Do you click on the icon and press the right mouse button and exit and restart?. But ive done that and tried restarting steam but all it says is "steam is already running you may only run 1 copy of steam at a time"

so waht do i do please help thanks.

Wait a little longer before launching it again. If all else fails, reboot comp.

Can anyone tell me what to fill in when Hammer starts up for the first time? I try to fill in the stuff from the sample directory, then it gives out about textures. Would someone tell me exactly what to put where? *cue smart answers

You have to have HL2 preordered.

I'm getting a problem (at least i think it is) Model viewer is working fine for me, but when i go to launch Hammer it says:

'No game configurations are available. You must set them up in the game configurations tab of the options dialog box before creating or loading a map.

Do you wish to open the new users guide to assist you in configuring Hammer?'

I then select Yes but it gives me the following error:

'The Help system could not be launched. The following error ws returned: System cannot find the file specified. (0x2)'

Can anyone tell me if they are getting the same errors? Is there any way i can configure Hammer manually?

Sorry if its a stupid question, i have absolutely zero experience with Hammer at all. Only mapping tools i have used before are Ued and the D3 editor.

When I open Hammer I get:
Fatal Error
Unable to find gameinfo.txt relative to ". Solutions:
1. Set enviroment variable 'VPROJECT' to the path where gameinfo.txt is.
2. Place " below the path where gameinfo.txt is.
3. Add -game <path> on the command line where <path> is the directory that gameinfo.txt is in.

I have no idea how to use this program .

I am pretty sure it will come to all with HL2 once its released, I am sure you need the source engine unlocked to test things out. Throw an email to Gabe if you aren't certain

Well thanks for that, but you must be aware that some people werent born knowing how to use Hammer. I'm sure you're the man and all, but why dont you just try to help people out when they dont know what they are doing, rather than making snide comments?

Yeah i havent found anything on the setup yet either, and ive gone through just about every page. If i can find anything i'll link it here.
