Seamless Textures (high quality results from most images, automatically)

thought some of you might find this useful, generates seamless and high quality textures from photo's even when they aren't perfect. The quality is pretty high and it will save hours or even days of work when it comes to creating textures for your mods.

It's not free, but its only $24 so yeah hardly breaks the bank does it :)

Remember what I was going to do on the "BIG" project? Going round town and photographing stuff? I'm going to do it in the next couple of weeks, and this'll help make the textures for it. Superb!

I've just been trying out the demo of it. It really is simple and quick and quick autoupdate to see how the result looks for removing highlighting and making things work as tiled textures. Even works with really crappy photography (so im set! lol)

You could do some of it in photoshop with a hard light layer and high pass filter, but this is just so much quicker than messing in photoshop, and does a nicer job of making them seamless :)

Would be handy on those two texture CD's I sent you that time, the absolute Textures series, or rather the cityscape one, turning those photo's into more usable textures.

Oh yeah, get the pro version, no limit to texture sizes then (regular is just 512x512 max)
 
I thought those texture CDs were tiled anyway?

Oh well, I'll order the pro version - 512x is way too small these days.

the other 6 CD's I sent are all seamless textures + bump maps, dirt maps, shadow maps and references. But the cityscape and landscape ones aren't really setup for tiling straight from the CD's.
 
ah, I haven't used the cityscape ones much. I keep meaning to convert the whole lot to .vtf, but then I wake up screaming...

hehe yeah can't say as I've used it much yet. Can now with this, should save a lot of headaches. The others have been getting tons of use though.. probably too much. I need a new texture library lol.
 
That's excellent. I might have to purchase this...
 
A manual Photoshop job can do better but if you don't know much about PS or you want fast results, I guess it's a good program.

doing things manually is only viable until you've got hundreds+ and little time. And since most mods don't like to take more than a few months (get bored and disband if it takes too long) and that many aren't up for doing the same things again and again, night after night, unpaid and for a mod that probably wont survive anyway. Something like this is just fine.

Give it a try, you might like it :)
 
I rather do it manually, gives alot better results. but for the amateurs its nice.
Could serve as a nice base to, to be cleaned up in photoshop later on

why bother on textures or art when your main consern should be getting coding down, discussing gameidea's set the conceptartist at work and focus on gameplay only

art are things that should be applied last.

Genetica 2 isn't free. It costs 100$ (300 for Pro version) to get the code which removes the DEMO watermarks from generated textures.
