Announced today are the Second Annual Saxxy Awards!

Last years Saxxy's were a pretty big hit. If you need a refresh, here's the list of the 20 winning video submissions and their respective categories.

This year's going to be a little bit different, though, for several reasons.

For one, Saxxy participants are no longer confined to Team Fortress 2 to create their content in. Valve says that you can submit videos from any of their games, or any other IP outside of their umbrella as long as you're not violating any copyrights laws. Secondly, you now have the Source Filmmaker in your tool chest. This is definitely going to blow the lid on creativity.

Submission dates are from November 1 to November 15. Voting begins November 16, and the winners will be announced by December 31st.

Winner of the "Best Overall" category will be flown to Valve to participate in a filmmaking session with the team, and their winning video will have the opportunity to appear on GTTV's VGA preshow this December!

There's more rules and guidelines you should read before getting started. Follow the link below for more info...

VALVE ANNOUNCES SECOND ANNUAL "SAXXY" AWARDS

Team Fortress 2 "Combat Movie" Making Contest Returns With SFM

Aug 17, 2012 - Valve, creator of best-selling game franchises (such as Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced further details on the second annual Saxxy Awards.

As revealed last night on GTTV with Geoff Keighley, this year's Saxxy entrants will be powered by the Source Filmmaker (SFM), the recently released storytelling tool Valve created inside the Source Engine to create all its animated short films, including those in the "Meet the Team" series of Team Fortress 2 shorts.

Entrants will compete for top honors in five categories, including Best Comedy and Best Drama. Every winner will take home a Saxxy, and the overall winner will also win a trip to Valve and have a chance to see their work aired on GTTV's VGA Preshow this December.

"I am absolutely inspired and stunned by the early work I've seen from fans experimenting with SFM," said Geoff Keighley, executive in charge of publisher relations for Spike TV. "All of us at Spike are excited to work with Valve to give someone in the community the chance to world premiere their original SFM short on TV in over 99 million homes."

"The Number of 3D animated short films produced in the few months since we released the SFM has blown away our expectations," said Bay Raitt, designer at Valve. "With so many filmmakers sharing our world, tools and techniques, we think this year's Saxxy's will produce an incredible collection of animated shorts all made by- and for the community."
