The Sonic cycle is broken. A couple months ago I did a preview for Sonic Unleashed, and while I couldn't say anything bad about it I was worried that it was going to fall prey to the cycle. It looked good, but this was a next-gen Sonic game we were talking about.

Everything is forgiven. Sonic Unleashed is AWESOME. It's fast, it's beautiful, and the Werehog levels are like Ristar. Yeah, you remember Ristar. It's THAT awesome.

There's a difference between the Wii/PS2 version and the 360/PS3 version; there's more Werehog levels in the former, but the levels have great designs. The running parts even have branching pathways. There's more platforming in the 360/PS3 version, and it looks a little better. That version also has PLAYABLE TAILS. Everybody wins in this one. There is no "worse" version. PS3 gamers have to wait until December 12 though, which is a downer, but the Wii and 360 versions are out now.

Also, semi-related to the game, Sega decides they're Pixar and released THIS:

Night of the Werehog

It has nothing to do with the game aside from having Werehog Sonic in it, but I cannot describe to you how ridiculously good it is. It's just a fun little short. Ghost Girl is the greatest Sega character since forever. Here is a ridiculously high quality 1.5GB version.

I thought he wasn't a game reviewer anymore.

I'm not. I did a preview for it on the wayback. The game's out now though. I wish I could do an official review on it, though.

Also Acepilot, Ristar was an old Genesis game done by Sonic Team. You could stretch out your arms and grab enemies. Werehog Sonic has the same kind of stretchy arm attacks.

What is the strangeness... this isn't my Sonic the Hedgehog. It touches me in a place or situation that makes me feel uncomfortable.

She has shape. She's a class III focused full-torso free floating vaporous apparition.

Agreed, that was excellent.

I liked the slow motion bits.

I like how at the end Sonic was all "too gay! *about to bite head off*"

That was awesome.

Who was the annoying little pink floaty dude?

So this Sonic Unleashed is actually good? :O Not sure if you liked Sonic Adventure, but would you say it was as good as that? Maybe better? :O

Also, that short was awesome.

That was great! Now i want the game..

I had heard this would be good and I am thrilled to hear it is actually true!!

And SEGA has redeemed itself because of this and LOADS of other stuff right now. They are going WAY in the right direction finally!

Besides all the Ghost Girl porn, this is probably one of the best things I've seen come out of that short.

So is there any rule 34 on the ghost girl yet.

Why must these thoughts surface? WANT PARTIAL INNOCENCE BACK.

A little bit of Team Rocket towards the end of that short

Ghost chick = hot

most of the 34 is pretty meh right now, I'm sure we'll see some full colored soon.

The heart on the cheek is the best part, imo.
Also, something is happening right below where I cut off the pic. ;D

Search for ghost_girl on rule34. :p

I love Ristar. Second favourite platformer (First being S3&K)

Sonic is dead to me now - there is no coming back.

"I HAVE NO SON(ic)!"

Oh, and despite the enthusiasm from darkside, the reviews out there seem pretty negative. 60 to 70. Eurogamer handed out the first 4 I've seen for a while (on a day when they've given away yet another 10...). Doesn't sound like Sonic is back folks.

Are you going to trust Eurogamer or are you going to trust Darkside?

One choice has said Mortal Kombat Deception was a good game. The other has 35'd Ghost Girl. Choose wisely.

But it looks a bit poo in the videos too.

*hides*

Why can't we just have a new 2d Sonic that isn't like the poo ones on the DS? You know, like the good Sonic games.

I agree with Warbie. They need to stop pushing out shitty 3D Sonic games and stick to the 2D gameplay that works perfectly.

Look...Sonic will never return to 2D. Ever. Sega will never have a Capcom moment where they just decide to release another 2D platformer that is exactly like the original. You think I don't weep that we'll never return to Casino Night Zone? I cry woman tears about it. But it'll never happen.

The best you can hope for is a game that tries to emulate, and maybe surpass Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, instead of heading into Sonic 2006 territory. And the only way this is going to happen is by supporting a good Sonic game like Unleashed, to show Sonic Team that nobody gives a flying fuck about Mephiles or grimdark Shadow plots or any of that shit. And this is a GOOD Sonic game. No, people, it doesn't live up to the 2D platformers. But if you can take off your nostalgia speed shoes for a moment and sit down with Unleashed, you'll realize that--holy shit--this is a GOOD Sonic game. It's fun. It's entertaining. And it doesn't have a contrived, Archie Comics-esque plot.
