I just bought hl2 silver yesturday, and after spending the rest of the day downloading rediculas updates and waiting for it to start, I finally got to bathe in its greatness.

For the last 3-4 hours I've been able to play it I've been searching for the perfect video settings.

Until...(wait for it) I decided to boost antialiasing up one notch, lower the res to 800x600 and lastly, change filtering from "tri" to anitsophobic (whatever it is called"

I pushed apply and then all hell broke loose...first it froze...then I had to reboot. But when I returned and started cs-s, it fired up and displayed the main menu. But when I clicked on somthing....NOTHING! I could here the "slip" sound LIKE I had activated the selection but I saw nothing.

I seriously doubt it has anything to do with the change from 1024x768 to 800x600 or antialiasing. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the filtering. What I am asking is there some way to manually alter one of the config files so I can change filtering back tri.

I REALLY need help, I can't do anything, not even send a bug report. PLEASE HELP G-NELSON

I Really only want to do that as a last resort, I just need somthing that can change that setting.

i'll try to contact valve.........

but still I really need some help here now

Wouldnt there be a cfg file somewhere with those settings?

Steam is sorta meant to stop people from stuffing up their settings but obviously that doesn't work so here's how to fix it.

Basically all you need to do is add "-autoconfig" to the launch options for CS:Source. Then just go back and configure them without stuffing it up :P

there are launch options you can use, however i do not know them
just wait, someone will post it!

Anisotropic filtering doesnt do anything untill youre actually playing the game. I think you caused this problem yourself by closing css when you thought it had froze, when in fact it was busy changing the settings (takes a minute after pressing apply).

The mans got a point, i give most applications five minutes to recover from "looking frozen" before i attempt to close it.

5 minutes!! They only get about 15 seconds of furious button mashing before I'm stabbing the power button...
And why the hell did they turn the XP ctrl+alt+del box into a mini-application?! now it hardly ever works...

go to the properties and put -autodetect in the comand line box it will force the game to re autodetect all your video settings for you so it's like you just reinstalled it.

remove the AA and stuff you turned on from the gfx control program in windows?

ADD THESE SETTINGS TO YOUR CS:S SHORTCUT:
-dxlevel 90 -mat_dxlevel 90

Worked fine for me.
