Server Migration Donations

Whining... Hm. Okay.

I'm just trying to think about what's best for the server and the donating community by expressing some of my concerns.

Well, I'm just saying that it works if you just use PayPal. Also, does Mynecraft use PayPal for payments? That would make it infinitely easier for us.

No, they have explicitly stated that they won't accept paypal with no exceptions being made.

I'm guessing someone will have to pay on their credit card / debit card and reimburse themselves from the fund we put together.

Yes, I proposed exactly that earlier in the thread when I discussed the paypal account setup. Depositing funds into the bank account each month after paying with the card, and leaving all excess within the paypal account.

Yeah, I qualified my statement with "guessing" because nobody acknowledged your suggestion.

Another way to do things would be to have the payment being made from one person's card, and another person managing the paypal fund. That would enable the person managing the fund to remain completely objective, and the person making the payment works only as a conduit for the outgoing payment.

Just a suggestion, not saying that Raz or anyone here isn't trustworthy, or that we shouldn't just trust them but whenever you hear of some kind of internet based swindle, it's always because this kind segregation of duties isn't in place, and one person is left with carte blanche over the money contributed.

Again, not saying that people here can't be trusted, it's just my professional opinion.

inb4 when whoever that is in charge of Mynecraft runs off with the money and buys some pills to overdose on, then the media will blame the Minecraft community and be all like "RUTHLESS GAMERS ON STEROIDS DONATES MONEY TO AID SUICIDE" to get Notch thrown in jail.

Also, turns out that i cant get the job. The douche that is quitting is doing so because the actual job is being terminated, thus wont open up again for me to apply to. shitdicks. Il just donate gold n stuff ingame as my token of gratitude, cuz im a total bro like that.

So besides a few concerns about how wise it'd be to do have one individual(me as nobody else has volunteered really) do the paypal thing and the purchase of the server... is everybody fairly content with what we might do here?

We need to get the server transferred soon, so once I feel comfortable that this is what we're going to do, we'll start opening up donations to be able to get the server going.

I'm happy with it all - if it falls on its arse, its only $5 in the end...

So are we going to see how many people want to donate and split the cost evenly, or just each donate $5 and see how many months that gets us? I'm cool either way, but it would be a bit unfortunate if that Mynecraft place went arse up after only a month or two. But again, just focusing on the worst case scenario, not saying it's actually likely. :p

Really just think we should have people donate what they want to. whether it's $5 or $3 or $1 or whatever else it is they feel they can and want to contribute.
