will HalfLife 2 work with systempack 2 the update for winXP because since i updated it to that half of my games dont work any more it just restarts my computer when i click on the game i want to play so i hope to god that when i get HL2 that it does actual work thanks for any info

That sounds like a pretty strange error you have there. I'd strongly recommend rolling back the update using system restore to go back to SP1. I haven't heard of any cases where people's games have stopped working :|

SP2 is supposed to be compatible with all current Windows software.

Moved to Hardware and Software

Chris,

Actually, I believe Microsoft has a list of windows software that SP2 has been in conflict with on their website. I'll try to find it and post it here. The list was pretty long and included at least a couple of games last time I checked.

Which games are giving you trouble skipper?

Shows how much I know :p

I'm glad I moved it here for you guys now :)

btw its service pack 2 not system allways get that mixed up DOH

The Service Pack 2 has been developed to decrease piracy most of all.. but Microsoft has not told us that at all.. just "to increase security", and by security they obviously mean "the chance that someone will go to www.serials.ws" or so.. really stupid..

I´d recommend NOT to install Service Pack 2..

So what you are experiencing is not necessarily a bug or so, just microsofts way to control peoples habits of using the software to the max.. and it sucks

/D

all these games im useing are are not pirets no they havent an eye patch on them lol but any way i think ill go back to service pack1 is there any way to d/l service pack 1 instead of systemrestore or formmatting?

I tried SP2 and found it buggy as hell. I just rolled back to SP1 and everything works like a dream again. As long as you have a proper firewall I advice you to stick to SP1.

are they ever planning on fixing sp2? or are they just saying screw off to all those who were fine and now are having massive problems with their machines since installing SP2? I'm glad I never put it on. next time I windows update I'm gonna make sure I uncheck it!

ummm, i have sp2 and all my games and programs work fine. As a matter of fact, my computer seems to be a little more responsive. And the built in pop-up blocker for IE roxxor

It's supposed to, it isn't.

Why is the ignorance this big? I don't get it.

SP2 sucks. If you get it now you're basically asking for trouble. I'll be getting it around Christmas, I figure it's bugfree by then.

Are you one of those people that think Microsoft is out to get you?... Microsoft isn't trying to control you... you still have the same functionality as you had before... There might just be some bugs in it... After all this software has to work on all different types of machines... I don't think Microsoft would release a piece of software just not "control" you... If you could write a piece of software that works on as may different combinations as Windows does go for it... or people will get all mad at you and blame you for trying to control them...so you better get it right the first time...

p.s. this isn't necessarily geared at you...just all the idiots out there that think Microsoft is out to "control" them...

Service Pack 2 works fine for me. Nothings slower and nothings faster and everything works perfectly fine. When i try n play a new game it will come up with something if i want to block or unblock or ask me later. I just click unblock and it never asks me again for that game. I dont use IE at all(Use Opera for my browser).

So Microsoft once again suceeds with my needs!
