SETI@home is a scientific experiment that uses Internet-connected computers in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). You can participate by running a free program that downloads and analyzes radio telescope data.

SETI@home

Well how am I supposed to know that!

I don't even get that channel!

i had it for a while, but it took a ton of system resources, and made my fan go crazy.

I had a similar program to this. But it wasnt SETI it was for a cancer research company. I used to run that all the time, but then windows corrupted it and i never managed to get it back.

o(Cancer research....SETI. TO be honest i think the cancer one was a better choice, but each to his own i suppose)

It's disturbing because people used to fake results so they'd get a bigger "Time spent" thingy. I'm not explaining it very well. I think the Cancer one had things to prevent that.

And yes, Cancer research is more important that SETI. No one can argue against that.

Well what if we find aliens that can cure cancer?

I spent over 120 hours analyzing one of those data chunk things from SETi... my old PC was really slow.

hey, I use to have this thing. It's kinda neat. If you're interested, I'd recommend downloading it. If not for anything else, it makes a cool screensaver.

heh, im running seti on 3 machines and united devices (the cancer thingy) on 2 other. i've like 800 packages finished for seti and spend like 10000 hours for it. but it's true, it takes up 100% cpu time, if no other process needs the cpu. the cpu gets really hot this way.

yeah, i use that only when i'm not doing anything else on the computer. takes up all your system resources.
