Basically I've been reading alot about Sourceworld lately, and it could be one of the most astounding games ever.
However I'm saddened, because it gives me so many ideas for another world: Shadowrun.

There are alot of Cyberpunk mods in the making, but none of them fulfill my vision.
To me, it would be a crime to not create a Shadowrun mod.
The problem? I can't code.
If I could code I would make the damn thing all by myself, even if it took me 2 years.
I know alot of creative people come on here, with nothing, they have no skills, no team, no premade work, all they have is an idea, and their mods rarely are ever built.
However every day I dream about this mod, I come up with so many ideas while I play a Shadowrun MUD. I simply cannot live until this mod is built.

So I try once again, to maybe recruit some people that share my vision.
For those who don't know what shadowrun is, I will explain it.
It's set in the year 2060.
In 2020 or so, the Awakening happened. Basically what the Awakening is, is when the world we live in today(aka the real world you see outside your window) discovered that the world is not quite what it seems.
There is magic. There are elves, trolls, and all sorts of other creatures.
There is The Matrix. Which is somewhat like the movie(except this matrix was designed way before the movie was made), where deckers plug in and surf the cyberspace.
There is the astral plane, which is when a magician leaves his body, and enters a reality plane that only magical entities can enter.

The world itself is highly technical, there's black market bioware and cyberware.
Cyberware is for example, a mechanical arm, that replaces your natural arm, or titanium bone lacing, which is when you lace all your bones in your body with titanium, to give yourself better armor.

There is 'rigging', which is basically car workshop.
You can build your own cars, drive around town, you can upgrade your engines or put machine guns on the front of the car.

On the one hand, you have a whole technical futuristic side, with cars, the Matrix, decking, electronics, and weaponry.
On the other you have the dark ages type magical side, with magical items, magical beings, you have trolls, elves, oni's, and a bunch of other otherwordly creatures.

You would have tons of weapons, ranging from futuristic firearms, to medieaval japanese swords.
You would have several types of languages, including spanish, japanese, english. Which the player would have to learn to be able to understand characters.

There would be tons of clothes and merchandise, and hidden items and places around the world. We would make sure every 'avatar' would look different.

There would be Johnsons, which give out jobs for players to do, spread around the world, and new johnsons added monthly.
For example, a johnson gives you a mission to kill some guy in a penthouse. If you're a mage you could make yourself invisible and sneak in, then drop some poison in his food, or just do he old silent knife kill.
If you're a decker, you could log in to the matrix and turn off all security and the lights, then proceed to sneak in and kill him.

Or you could hire a team of other players, and they could help you kill him for a fee, you could have a decker to take out security, a mage to scope the area via the astral plane.

The possibilities are endless.

I simply cannot be the only one who sees the complete and utter awesomeness of such a game.
It would simply own everything else out of the water.
Am I right or am I right?

If there are anyone out there, who shares this vision and have the skills to make it happen, please contact me and we can make it happen together.
I know it's not an impossible project, it may take alot of time, but it would be worth it. Such a game would have so much replayability, it's just ridiculous..

So please, I can't get this out of my head especially since no shadowrun world has ever been created in 3D :D

well i have been looking for a mod but all the other mods out there have been over done.

i worked as a coder on the hackerz mod. the team leader, Brit_hits. is the best leader i have ever worked with and made shure we got the job done w/o being pusshy. if you would like him to lead the mod team in doing this (you would still be in controll over the story/what it is.) then i would help. so if you want ill ask him, but i, right now, only want to work under him.

just to make it clear this is how it would be

By limiting yourself to only working under one mod leader, you have the problem of not knowing the difference between different types of mod leader. I'd advise you give this guy a shot, Bigcheese, because it could be difficult to get your old team leader to join it.

As for the mod concept... *reads thoroughly from a coding standpoint*

If your mod was doable, yes, it would blow everything else of its ilk out of the water. However, a MMORPG under the source engine is kind of difficult, because you need massive servers to support the player load, and individual player's servers will unlikely be syncronised (so characters wouldn't port across, defeating the point of levelling).

Customisable characters; I've never seen a time it worked properly in a mod. Making every player unique would be impossible, because certain styles would look better, and be more popular.

And even though Source allows for some pretty massive maps, just think how one map isn't going to support something this big.

If you want this mod to go anywhere, it's probably an idea to learn some coding, because right now it looks like only you have the dedication to actually do this.

trust me, i have worked under many and the job never got done exsept with him.

and they made source with mmorpg in mind. so it will be doable.

most likely you would have muiltiple map servers and one server that has all the player information. the only problem i see in this mod is where you are going to get the servers.

You'll also need a coder who's worked on an MMORPG before. Trust me, it's harder than it seems.

And with the jobs not getting done, maybe you've just been attracted to the over-the-top in aspiration mods? Look for a down-to-Earth mod team who know what they want, how they're going to do it, and aren't looking to copy counterstrike/dod or 'revolutionize' gaming with a cliche'd idea. Those are the ones that fail. And the ones that have a mod leader that offers nothing to the team but 'ideas' and 'creative control'. Steer clear of mod leaders who can't do anything but lead, and are unwilling to put anything into the mod - they're only in it to steal other peoples' thunder.

hey

Hey, cerberus here from corporate anarchy.

To me, it would be a crime to not create a Shadowrun mod.

Funny, actually it would be a crime to make a shadowrun mod. The last thing I want to do is get in trouble with microsofts legal department. Microsoft, btw, owns the rights to any shadowrun game. Rumor has it that its bungies next project after halo 2. If you do make a shadowrun mod, you will be sent a scary legal letter telling you to immediately stop the project.

You can't make a shadowrun mod, its a non-issue. What you can do is make a generic cyberpunk mod, which, hey, quite a few of us are doing.

And the scary legal letter will probably be from a (most likely angry) lawyer. Definately a frightening concept.

Oh damn dude, I totally forgot what was mentioned in the former thread about legal rights.
Regardless we don't have to use the name shadowrun, or the names from any shadowrun thing anyway.
We can just name trolls 'ogres' and cyberware 'hard kinetics' for example.

Anyway Microsoft owns the ****ing rights? God this is a disaster.
I have a very very clear picture in my head of how it would look and play, so clear in fact, I could write a 100 page design document detailing every aspect of the game, which I almost did the other day just for fun.
Bungie might be making the game? Well that's both good news and bad news. Good news in a sense that the game is getting made at all, and bad news in that it probably won't fulfill all my expectations.

If corporate anarchy incorporated magic into the mix, it would be 5x times better. If the whole world was magical it would add so much more to it IMO.
And since the SDK isn't even out yet, it's not too late to do that right?
Seriously I'm just DYING for a good Shadowrunish game here.

(the weapons in shadowrun are butt-ugly btw, so no one would play the mod :p)
