Sheeesh, what a joke this has been..

Hi there,

I'm new to everything CS, I have never played any of the games, well alittle of Hl1.

My Mrs bought me a copy CS CZ, I thought Great, ill try that, and if i like ill buy HL2 & CS source.

But i cant even get online with the CS CZ, blooody steam, what a joke that is, i mean, common im only trying to play a game online FFS... what a buggy POS.

Forgive me here for being abit strong here, but ive tried installed the game 3 times on the hope that i could atleast have one game... but alas, this is not to be.. my system hangs all the time...

anyways, to my problem.

When trying to log onto a server, i have to download a secruity module. This goes ok, but then its says "precaching resources", and just hangs... nothing else happens, this is extremely frustrating to say the least. ive left it for over a hour and nothing happens!!!!!! what the feck is it doing, why does it hang my system up...

Every damn server after a while kicks me with a time-out message... Why do companies make you use ther shitty, bugger, software!!! gives me the hump...

Anyways, this will be the second forum ive ask for help, lets hope someone actually gives abit this time.. ive spent about 7 hours in total trying to sort this, sheesh.

Don't blame this on Steam... this is definitely a client-side problem, as you don't see many people with problems like these.

Do you have broadband? Good. Register your cd-key & download CZ via Steam instead. I guarantee it'll work (unless your computer is the problem). Have you downloaded all the patches completely? Playing online won't work until you have. & the game is prone to crash if you haven't downloaded everything. Does singleplayer work?

Other than that, I have no idea what's wrong.

Steam was a piece of shit, I attest to that fact.

It's better now, but it is really cumbersome. And it's hard to attract new players when their first experience with a program is a arduous install process.

Don't deny it, steam was a POS when it first came out.

You can't expect something like Steam to work perfectly on release, unless they've gone through a massive beta test.

Everyone complaining, I just want to emphasise this fact: you seem to forget that STEAM WAS A BETA PRODUCT WHEN IT WAS RELEASED. There, I've said it. Now stop complaining. I used Steam since it started - never had a problem. Ever. Never needed a reinstall. Nada. Lucky me, eh?

Even better: what arduous install process? I always fail to see the arduous bit. "OMG, this thing takes 5 minutes to install and is free and gives me free updates to my games, and lets me get games earlier than anyone else! Goddamn VALVe for making me have to set up an account!"
