Sheep marching into Oblivion

Great post Mikeal.

Whats REALLY worrying is the comment 'Oblivion is infinitely superior to Morrowind in every conceivable way.'

Again, simplification of games is good?

Simplification leads to the games being more similiar. With similiarity, the need to buy games decreases, as you get the same game with a different paintjob. This will lead to a dramatic fall in sales and a crash of the market. And bankrupcy.

Simplification means the games are more accessible to more people. We may not like it, but thats how it is. Dont be stupid, saying that simplifying games makes them all the same. There are plenty of great games, unique games, with simplified systems beneath them. You can still be unique and fun while being simple to use.[/quote]

Yet a majority of titles from Ubisoft do not need patches of any kind. That's called "quality design".

I have played more buggy ass games from Ubisoft than I have from Bethesda. The thing with Ubisoft is that once they release a game, they forget about it. **** fixing any of its problems, move on to the next game.

Interact as in "ignore people who point out the mishaps and ban them", censor a lot of material on the boards. Rip people off with forcing them to pay for content they initially cut from the game due to time constraints and released as a "cheap" plugin.

Im not saying this is right. I am saying that this is how businesses in general are. No shit thats its a bad practice, but its a common practice. You only single out Bethesda for it because they happened to piss you off by making a game you didnt like.

Introversion is a much smaller scale developer, and they release FREE patches with cut content without ripping off the gamers.

Oh shit! Some company is trying to make more money!?!?!? Alert the FEDS! Ripping off consumers is a long time tradition in all business. Get used to it, because the gaming industry is maturing. All industries rip off consumers, its how the world works.

Yes, it's widely known that fans released giant patches to create the game they were supposed to get:

This is exactly what I just said. They wanted the game in a different way than they got it. So they changed it. Other people got it the way they wanted it, so they didnt have to change it. Bethesda cant please everyone, so they chose to please the largest section they could. It was the casual gamers. You are no better than they are, they deserve a game they want just as much as you do. It just happened to be that it was more feasible for Bethesda to make a game for them, than it was to make a game for you.

And exactly in which ways is Bethesda making a service to the industry? By proving that making cheap, incoherent games is better than actually providing replayable quality games?
How well did Oblivion sell? How well did Morrowind Sell? Both of the games disappointed fans, but sold out the ass. So if by making "cheap, incoherent games" they sold more, then YES, it was a service to the industry. More money = better for the industry.

It seems that it is YOU who are brainwashed by the hype and "I don't care" mindset.
Or perhaps im just a realist who understands business practices, the realities of game production as an industry, and who isnt a fanboy who got told to gtfo by some company for spewing hateful crap in their own message boards.

Oblivion has a good engine powering it,
Gamebryo is not that good of an engine. Well at least now how Bethesda uses it. Mainly the graphical part. Yes Oblivion has nice graphics, however the way it renders is still quite similar to Morrowind.

Simplification is a crime. Deep, complexs game with an intuitive interface would sell just as good.

All Ubisoft titles I played were good right out from the box.

No, I don't do it because I don't like Oblivion. I do it because Oblivion is shoved down our throats as a revol(ting)ution and Bethesda is blatantly screwing us over.

Oh shit! Some company is trying to make more money!?!?!? Alert the FEDS! Ripping off consumers is a long time tradition in all business. Get used to it, because the gaming industry is maturing. All industries rip off consumers, its how the world works.

This attitude is why we get screwed over. Inaction and passive acceptance of screwing. Just a small bit of activity, pointing out and at least spreading the word a bit would help. A bit, but always a bit.

This is exactly what I just said. They wanted the game in a different way than they got it. So they changed it. Other people got it the way they wanted it, so they didnt have to change it. "Can't please everyone" is bullshit. Chuckie "****tard" Cuevas, the lead designer of FO:pOS said that.

It is possible to please hardcore fans and new fans. All it takes is paying attention to earlier games, keeping the lore and backstory together and not dumbing the game down.

No, not better for the industry. Oblivion sold well thanks to the hype and marketing, not because it's a good game. People disappointed with such games will just stop buying games, HARMING the industry.

Or perhaps im just a realist who understands business practices, the realities of game production as an industry, and who isnt a fanboy who got told to gtfo by some company for spewing hateful crap in their own message boards.

No, you're a defetist, that is a difference. Plus, I did not troll TES forums, nor did estabilsihed members of NMA. You know who got banned? Fans of TES who started responding to the posted RPG Codex review, considering it true and honest.

Our inaction will encourage ripping us off. If we do something, as little it may be, we may yet stand a chance.

Oblivion is a well made game, I think it's great and the gameplay is really good fun, but because of a few story and gameplay flaws as well as graphics that are so outstanding you need a NASA space shuttle to run it - people jump all over it that they were fooled because they marketed to be so lovely and playable.

It's a good game and it deserves respect to it's creators.

It's out me off getting oblivion as I was already on the ropes about it anyway.

This thread has made me want to reinstall Oblivion. Im done here. Nothing I say will have any affect because you will just refuse it. I should have remembered the last time I tried.
