The PCZone/CVG website has a news item about vivendi and the release date here is what it says:-

EXCLUSIVE: VIVENDI DELIBERATES OVER HALF-LIFE 2 RELEASE CANDIDATE

Publisher crushes hopes with ship date still to be confirmed, while game code goes under evaluation

16:26 'Half-Life 2 release date still to be confirmed' is the official response from Vivendi to the news hitting the Internet today that the publisher has informed UK retailers to expect the game to be on the shelves as of November 26 (see story).
Informing us within the last hour that "Last week we received a Half-Life 2 release candidate from Valve, and in its current state Half-Life 2 is brilliant and looks astonishing," a Vivendi spokesperson went on to talk about the current status of the game, saying: "Vivendi Universal Games is in the midst of determining whether Half-Life 2 meets the gameplay standard of the company and more importantly the devoted Half-Life fanbase."

"This is standard for every game and it is particularly important for Half-Life 2 given its technical depth," the spokesperson added, before telling us that "We [Vivendi] are hopeful that we can communicate a ship date very soon."

Another Vivendi source said that the publisher is hopeful of a release before Christmas.

Considering the high profile of Half-Life 2, Vivendi's reluctance to confirm a release date before it's content with the code is understandable, but for that fanbase it talks of - of which we count ourselves a part - to say it's incredibly frustrating would be an understatement, especially considering the lengthy delay that the game has already suffered.

And not the mention the fact that magazine reviews of Half-Life 2 are now out there in the great world of videogame-dom. It's all becoming a bit surreal really.

Senior retail sources earlier today informed us that they deemed Half-Life 2 hitting in the last week of November highly feasible, saying that "It's the very first time they've [Vivendi] been confident about finalising a date."

But until we get the official word from Vivendi on the subject, it's all just so much hot air.

I thought the bit about VUGames determining if the Half-Life 2 meets the gameplay standard was funny, it is probably going to be game of the year FFS :sniper:.

edit : I see it has been already posted on the homepage, and in a post, in news and announcements.

That just looks like a overview of all the info we know so far, nothing new.

It's marketting Speak for "We're bug testing the game". That's why they mention "Technical depth".
