On my trip to Paris back in 2003, I ate some escargots, they taste like chicken, seriously!

The cuttlefish bone is for calcium.. you can use ground up egg shells too I think :)

Anyhows I guess this thread better get back on topic, I think shippi prefers her snails alive.

Puppies poop everywhere! Nah, they're cute :D But I do have 3 cats!
 
Snails! Friggin' awesome! I've always wanted to take home that two stone supernail they found on the African coast!

...well, it didn't weigh two stone really... but it was apparently the biggest they'd ever recorded.

Snails and other exotic pets (go tarantulas!) are, bluntly, less demanding than a bunch of hyperactivate barking shit factories. Not that I'd ever neglect ol' Rosie, but since she can cope for months without food it means I don't have a panic attack if I have to stay the night due to rail failures or whatever.

Plus, they're really fascinating creatures :D

Friend of mine got a nautillus himself (although I don't really understand the how, the when, and the legality of the purchase)- I'll see if I can get some footage of Kraken (even though he's a tiny swimming midget)...
 
That snail was pretty cool. I've always wanted one (I keep herptiles and stuff), but they mess up the inside of their enclosure toommuch with their gunk. Must be a pain to clean :x

BTW, I have 10 cats. OWNED!!

They don't make too much mess, you just need to change the soil out the tank once a week and I hose it out, gets all the slime off :)
 
So you use soil rather than the polystrene-esque bedding rocks? I suppose it's a better surface for the trails, not to mention natural and readily available. Tarantulas can cope with soil fairly well, but at least a snail isn't stupid enough to try and tunnel under a rock in a spirited attempt to commit arachnocide :x

You need to use something like soil in the tank so they can bury themselves. Mine don't seem to do that, they prefer to sleep in overturned plant pots. Maybe the soil isn't deep enough for them, hmm
 
That was quite possibly the weirdest video I have ever seen :O . In fact so weird that it is addicting... can't... stop...watching...

well... that video could have been half as long and equally entertaining. heh. personally, im not a fan of snails but whatever floats ur boat... maybe ill make a video of my cats and put it on here but for some reason, i dont think it would recieve that same kind of response as the snail video (prob cuz SHIPPI is a girl). :laugh:

I've heard that snails really, really like beer, and if you ever want to destroy someones garden (don't we all) you should spray beer all over his plants and the snails will eat the plants.

i don't know about you guys but snails make me go 'ick' at all the slime and goo. especially because that guy said that he ate them once, and they tasted rubbery but spicy.

my snail story that I just remembered:

we used to go up near the seattle area (more near olimpia really) for the 4th of july where a bunch of our family was. There's always tons of fireworks of all kinds and we would sometimes light black cat's and then drop 'em in the lake onto snails that were loged on boards underwater. The fireworks would knock the sails off a la depth charge :p

(side story, a lot of people would blow up slugs in various ways too :p)
 
They're not that bad. They were dishing 'em out and I thought - why not. Apparently the look on my face was classic when I first put in my mouth - it was all rubbery - I think it may have been some sort of special escargot, they were pretty spicey.

Then again, I've never and will never think "Hmmm, I could do with some snail right now!" :p
