MASTER THE ART OF WAR TO BECOME THE UNDISPUTED RULER OF MEDIEVAL JAPAN
In 2000, the Creative Assembly re-invented the strategy genre with Shogun: Total War, an unprecedented blend of 3D real-time battles and turn-based management game and the first offering in the multi-award winning series. With over 7 million units sold and universal acclaim from the press and community, Total War has consistently been at the cutting edge of the genre and is today one of the most successful PC franchises of all time.
In 2011, the makers of Rome and Empire: Total War will release the sequel to the game that started it all. Shogun 2: Total War will take long-time veterans and newcomers alike to the next level of strategy gaming on PC. Based on 10 years of experience in making Total War, Shogun 2 is the perfection of the series with a new Artificial Intelligence (AI), revolutionary multiplayer modes, brand new campaign map options and epic 3D real-time battles.

It is the middle of the 16th century in Medieval Japan. The country, once ruled by a unified government, is now split into many warring clans. The player takes on the role of one Daimyo – the clan leader – and will use military engagements, economics and diplomacy to achieve the ultimate goal: re-unite Japan under his supreme command and become the new Shogun – the undisputed ruler of Japan.
Set during the golden age of Samurai warfare, Shogun 2 brings to life the most turbulent period of Japanese history.

Total War redefined
Shogun 2 is the ultimate refinement of the original formula with a new, cutting-edge AI, more polish and online functionality than ever before. The result is the perfect mix of real-time and turn-based strategy gaming that invites both veterans of Total War and new players to experience the enjoyment and depth of the series.

New character progression
Choose from 9 different clans and compete on and offline for the undisputed supremacy of Medieval Japan. Gain experience to level up your own character-warlord as well as your generals and agents.

A complete single and multiplayer offering
Play through the Main Campaign in single player or invite a friend online to play competitively or cooperatively in Campaign Multiplayer mode. Join 8-player multiplayer battles with your own upgradable avatar and climb the online Leaderboard to show the world who reigns supreme. Also including exciting new modes of team play for clans, a first in the Total War series.

New Generation AI system
Developed according to Sun Tzu’s principles in the Art of War, the Artificial Intelligence constantly analyses its situation and reacts to your every move with greater precision and variety.

Improved land and naval battle gameplay
Land battles never felt so realistic with new multi-staged castle sieges and terrain features changing according to the weather and time of the day – turning each engagement into a tactical challenge. Set buildings on fire to force garrisoned troops out and use your units’ special abilities to turn the tide of the battle.
Naval combat also offers more variety with the addition of coastal battles. Islands can work as effective cover for your ships, while sand bars and reefs can be used as traps against an enemy fleet.

Accessible and in-depth empire-building gameplay
A streamlined User Interface makes management of your kingdom much easier. Build and govern cities, recruit and train troops, conduct diplomacy and manage your agents – each feature is now introduced with comprehensive tutorials, gradually revealing the depth of the Shogun 2 campaign map – the heart and soul of the Total War experience.

Also, on the official Total War website they have an hourglass that's counting down to something and apparently each year it stops on is a year that major things happened in the Far East.

...Holy shit. Campaign Multiplayer? How the hell would that even work? I mean, awesome, but... how?

God damn. I really do want another Shogun: Total War!

Ah yea it was pretty obv they where going to do it. I knew a few folk that work there so have known for quite some time :p

It was one of my first RTSes along with Warcraft, so I'm especially excited since I've been dying to see the game with beefed up graphics and a grand campaign for so long.

cool
I never played Shogun.... Rome is what got me hooked on TW
but Medieval Japan should be awesome!

Can't wait, never played the first one so hopefully this should be good. Just wish that they deliver on the AI. Since every game they state that the AI is amazing and when it comes down to it, it is just appalling.

Can't they make a Total History Total War?

Read this as "Shotgun 2: Total War".

Meh, my day is ruined.

A Rome 2 would be cool but I don't think it needs a sequel just yet.

I want Romance of the Three Kingdoms: Total War, damnit!

My money is still on a Total War during the Greco-Persian wars. Which would be awesome imo.

Eh. They got as close to that as they could with Rome: TW: Alexander. For new games they'll just keep going up, I suppose. Although, past Napoleon is getting close to modern times.. who knows. They'll have to shake up their own traditions to make a more modern game. Or just remake all the old ones.

Different era. By the time the Alexander campaign starts, the hegemony of the Greek city states was a thing of the past. I am talking about the period 650 BC - 400 BC.

I know, hence why 'the closest we'll get'.

Does sound pretty wicked. I really haven't been up to date on my RTS though, still have yet to beat SC1 with the remaining factions :bonce:

IGN put this teaser trailer up for a 'mystery game'. My Nipponese isn't very good, but I am quite sure 'Shogun' is one of the first words out of the old dude's mouth. No Greeks or WWI then.

From the first tweet, "Nor will it show guns"?

I'm fairly certain that the Japanese during the 16th century made somewhat extensive use of rifles.

The only firearm the japanese used was the arquebus, the ancestor of the musket, they eventually banned them for being dishonourable. If they are in the game, they will probably be as useless as they were in M2TW.

A arquebus is still a gun though, isn't it?

I'm hoping this wouldn't be a Shogun 2 because there's so much more to Asian war history than just Japan.

I'm totally bored of this series. I have been since Rome. Shogun was great for its time though.

Only 8 factions? Plus with such a small scale of land, this game is bound to be inferior compared to predecessors.

If you'd played any of the scenarios in any of these games you'd know that they can inflate any portion of land into a HUGE MAP. Napoleon: Total War. North Italy scenario? ****ing at least west-Europe sized.

Well it says 9 playable factions, there could be a few unplayable ones as well. I'm not sure who they'd be though.

This is the same thing that Shaker posted. It's just an old geezer saying how cultured and refined the shogun were, then talking about examples of calligraphy from the past, how they expressed status and prestige, how military leaders were good at it, and how they retained guys whose job it was to produce this kind of stuff.

I'm pretty dubious that it's any kind of teaser at all since it just looks cut from a documentary, with the S:TW music stuck on top. The question is where IGN got it from, I guess. If it's genuinely from Sega or CA then it could still be a heavy hint about Shogun 2, because of the music and the big 'SHOGUN' calligraphy at the end.

Oh, my bad.

Didn't even notice the link there.

Love the authentic period art style. Hope the AI is a little less idiotic than all the others.

Wow, I soiled myself after seeing the screen with the storm, looks great.

Don't hold your breath. I guarantee it'll be pretty much exactly the same. They've proven time and time again that they do not make the changes significant enough, and don't eradicate the problems.

New gameplay trailer!
THIS LOOKS F*CKING BEAUTIFUL :O

Awesome. The graphics look superb and the fighting, however little of it was shown, looks great. And those armies look a lot bigger than in previous Total War games, so I think we should be expecting an increase in the amount of troops on a single battlefield.
