Okay, don't jump for posting what may be elsewhere on the forum -although I never saw it answered.

I like for my shoot em ups to have weapons with "meat" to them. You know what I mean? I like for a 12 gauge to feel like a 12 guage (or 10 gauge for that matter) How is this effect simulated in HL2? Also, what type of response can we expect from enemies getting shot. Will the ragdoll effect be seen before the enemy falls? In other words, if I shoot an enemy in the shoulder will I see him spin a bit. I ask this only because I and many others can't stand when you shoot an enemy and there is no animation to slow him down or let you know he is shot and hurting. Usually its just a splatter of blood and the damn thign just keeps shooting at you like he wasn't hit with lead. Thanks fellas.

The Havok engine (physics engine HL2 is using) supports a ragdoll effect on enemies that are still alive. I dont know if its implimented in hl2 though.

Someone should e-mail gabe about this. Its Called Ragdoll Blending

Holy shit, that zombie movie is amazing, i wish i could download that lvl and play it. and if that is in hl2....

ive e-mailed him about 30 times with no respones to hit reactions/keyframe blending. how would that work vs alien dogs and striders and all? and multiplayer?

Any idea why that movie wont run in Media player? Since I got my new computer some types of movie files wont play in Media Player like they used to.

I guess against alien dogs it would blow them back and take out their legs. with striders, i dont think they feel bullets that much, but a rocket to the head would probably make it sway back a bit.

it took a while for it to work for me
about a minute, jus keep waitin.

I'm betting they won't do it, although they could. It seems as though it would be difficult to implement in every situation, and they don't seem to like doing things unless they think it will work flawlessly. All I know is that in the e3 demo, what annoys me most is how enemies have no hit reaction whatsoever, although I'm sure that will change.

It's a .avi so make sure you have the DivX codec installed. Also get xvid in case you ever come across an xvid encoded video.

if you look closer...i think you can see hit reactions on the combine soldier when he first enters traptown. he pics up a dumpster or whatever and launches it down the stairs. a soldier comes out firing and he shoot shim a couple times with the pistola. i think i see him reaction to the hit. and dont the ant lions have some sort of reaction to the hit?

Maybe those antlions skin are too thick to feel anything.. j/k

hopefully there will be reactions when getting shot.. but if it is gorden(we, the player) who is being shot... how will our screen react?? shake it up and down, left and right?

You need the right codec.

Get ffdshow directshow program here: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ffdshow/ffdshow-20030523.exe?download

Choose a mirror and install all options.

Get ace mega codec pack here: http://www.softnews.ro/public/cat/11/2/7/11-2-7-10.shtml

Install "complete" option, BUT BE SURE TO UNCHECK REAL DECODER (not realmagic, that's different) AND FFDSHOW.
Those two will cause real player to break and some movies to not play.

Then get nimo codec here: http://nimo.titanesk.com/modules/freecontent/content/filemirror/dl.php?mid=14

Download the one that says "here" directly under the text that says "build 9 beta 1". Install it, uncheck everything except "ligos mpeg splitter", "morgan multimedia stream switcher" and "mpeg-2 splitter ac3 xform", those will be in "directshow filters".

Doing that will allow you to play any movie out there. If you run into a movie that will not play, open program files from start menu and go to ace mega codecs pack directory and use the gspot program to see what codec the file needs. Open the file in gspot and hit the render button at the bottom and see what it says for video and audio. Try reinstalling ace and nimo with only the codec that gspot said the file used (in case I forgot something) just be sure not to install real player and ffdshow codec from ace mega codec, those two aren't good.

Keyframe blending is in hl2. Look at the strider video. Watch when he shoots the chest of drawers at the strider and hits the strider... The strider is knocked back by the impact, but then recovers and continues walking.

stop worrying people.

oh, and if you've e-mailed gabe 30 times, and he hasn't responded, maybe you should stop...

i want to see a very clear example of it, like a shotgun to the head =)

Spiffae, I know what you are talking about, but I don't think that is the blended ragdoll thing. It doesn't look very good anyway, it just jerks into a different position without correcting the movement.

it does...when the big ant lion hits you u see some shaking

I think i can explain this. The stider was affected by the chest of draws no doubt. But all the others dont seam to be affected by bullets. At least from what i cant see. Could this be because the bullets arnt there because its hit scan? Just a thought
