my 19" LCD isn't even full HD or widescreen, its square! also this monitor is only $200!! i need some advice on this because these deals go fast

No. "HD" resolutions should be kept to TVs. 16:10 is for serious business.

I disagree.

I bought a 16:10 monitor and wish I had gone 16:9. When you figure that half of the games we play now adays are console ports, going 16:9 makes sense. Not to mention, I have my consoles hooked up to my PC monitor and am somewhat annoyed by the one inch black bars on the top and bottom of my screen. Wish I had more horizontal view space. Plus movies, plus blah blah blah.

So you'd trade less screen space on a computer to go along with entertainment trends. Interesting. I like doing other things on my computer too, so having more horizontal space makes more sense to me. I also usually play games that don't have fixed resolutions or aspect ratios. Don't go along with trends. Demand options!

I usually like to keep a 'square' resolution for my PC. So I'm probably the wrong person to ask if you are into widescreen. It's for work and play. Plus most games still design their games for people without widescreen monitors (how wide the streets are and where enemies pop up in view etc). My living room as the HDTV with a PS3 and 2nd PC hooked up to it.

Rewind 8 years ago and people would be boasting about their dual 21" CRT setup @ 2048x1536 resolution per screen.

Actually now that I've been looking...I can spend 10% more and get an LG LED with 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio but I have to wait till it releases first. I think I'll play it cool and wait till that one is out, also its only 2 inches smaller but i'm thinking the LED is better looking and would last longer

How am I trading away space? I am simply re-arranging it.

The value of trading the space to go horiztonal isn't that great. Movies only really.
If you show this webpage on a 16:9 instead of a 4:3 you'll get far fewer posts and lots of background?

Asus is right.

Also you DO have less space with 16:9.

The resolutions are 1920x1200, vs. 1920x1080. These pixel counts don't really matter when watching a movie of course because it's all upscaled and just the aspect ratio matters. But we're talking about a computer here, where everything on your screen is a set size, so 16:10 isn't losing at horizontal space, it's only gaining 120 more lines vertically.

my scale right now is 4:3 and I really don't like it. since i have off tomorrow from work I'm going to do a little more digging on monitors before i reach a solution...because i really hate rushing into expensive purchases. if i can hold out one more month to get a better monitor i will
