-glances over at hl2 fully purchased receipt-, -glances at gold package content- ... wow I just got JIPPED... ughhhhh doug lombardi I will get you some day.. I swear..

i'm too broke for both, so I think i'l go with the gold.. but I want cds manuals and art.. it's what makes the game feel so memorable and special... BAAH

get the gold man. don't give your money to VU. they suck.

Why would that cost $200? I hope you're not willing to pay $200 for that.. :|

Anyway, get the Gold version. The CE is too little for too much, IMO.

..yep i've decided.. after a bit of logical thinking.. VU sucks and boxes are nothing it's all about the game.. plus all the merchandise.. MMMMMMMMMMMMMM good so temping.. gold it is, thanks guys? what are you guys getting?

So, why woudl this be Doug Lombardi's fault?

I wanted the box but I'm going to get the gold edition now.

Silver. However if the price is good, Gold.

i guess in the coming weeks we will know exactly what to do.. since pricing isn't available yet but yeah.. i'll probably have to cancel my CE pre-order.

indeedy, siyonara crappy vivendi ( no matter how good valve is at boxing stuff) wha tthey have cooked up in the GE is 10x it.

Hmm. Hopefully they're willing to ship those goodies on up to Canada. And what about the rest of the world? They should have provided more information.

Yay Icarus!
Kudos to Valve for comming up with somthing that would rip soo many gamers away from the boxed CE edition, and have them buy over steam. VU isnt going to know what hit them.

Straight away, I'll say that I've definitely decided to purchase over Steam, and get the Gold version. That was my intent all along, to support Valve and send my money into the right hands. The awesome news about the Gold package just re-confirmed my plans.

As far as the physical, boxed copy, I still do plan to buy one later on. I'll buy it a year or two down the road, when I can get it for twenty bucks. That way, VU gets screwed out of the money like they deserve, and I get my shiny box and CDs for a much lighter price tag.

amen bro

Before I cancel my retail pre-order.

Do you reckon the gold package will be available outside of the states? It may cost them a lot to be posting all the goodies internationally.

I'm thinking that the money VALVe will make from steam sells will be so much more then retail that a small 15$(guessing) shipping fee is chump change.

yeah, sad.

I m getting ce, the rest will be available on the internet after few days ;)

I hope Gold's price doesn't reflect that they're including all of the old games in the package. I already have access to DoD, CS, TFC, etc. I don't want to be paying for those games again.

Falcon - hello mate :)

Sadly, I don't think that argument holds any water now. Valve is pretty much saying that all the old HL mods that you mention above are all 'new products' in their own right, and as such, they'll be charging for them - in one way or another.

They are all made in a new engine, therefore you could say they were 'sequels' and since when has any company ever given away a sequel for free? Deus Ex? Thief? Quake? etc. I think the modders sold their souls to Valve when they got jobs there, and Valve have staked their claims on the intellectual property - so they can do what the hell they want with them.

Seeing as HL2 isn't going to be generating any revenue for 6 months, they might as well get the revenue streams going from somewhere else.

I can understand their way of thinking, but we'll only understand the full impact of their decision when the games come out.
