should my Geforce 4 ti4400 run Half life 2 smoothly?

Should have been posted in the Hardware forum. Although you should have searched a little to find the answer before making a new thread on it. :)

Ya it should run it fine, but you won't be able to have the details set very high.

It'll run fine, just make sure ur running on DX8, or maybe even 7. If you play on DX7, you should probably be able to play the game at 1024*768, but maybe with some detail settings on medium. Def no FSAA tho

well shiiiat by that logic, i can run in directx 5 and get incredible framerate!

Actually I think they said that dx8 ran alot faster than the dx9 for the nivdia cards. I have a GeForce 4 Ti 4200, Im not to worried about how it will look/run.

Especialy since the bink vids from steam were runing in dx8...or so i've herd.

But the graphics on the bink videos dont look that good.
And the HDR tech video...mmm, that one looked good, but that was dx9.

hmm... it'll be playable. using the scaled down dx8 mode. It may not look a million dollars, but it'll still play as well as you could hope.
I'm ordering a radeon 9800 tommorow......
:D

mmm I don't get it... are you saying that a 4400 fully supports DX9 or that an FX card will have to bump down to DX8?

i DON'T think there will be a DX7 mode?
i mean, they already say it's hard enough to program the whole in DX8...

so how do people with geforce2's play the game?....there has to be DX7 mode.

I want somebody to show me the exact difference in those screenies released showing DX8 vs DX9 on HL2. I studied them for quite awhile and don't notice anything. This certainly isn't gonna prevent me from running out and buying a 9800XT but I'm just saying, I don't see any difference at all between the 2 so I think DX8 will look just as good as DX9 in the game. If there's something I'm missing, please point it out to me.

PCgamer has said a geforce 4 ti 4200 and up can run in high detail with dx 8 and get about 30 fps.

it's already been said that Hl2 supports everything from DX6, DX7, DX8, to DX9 and all revisions inbetween

Then how would you account for ppl with TNT2 cards being able 2 play it? They are daying they have made it very scalable. It should scale down to even DX6!! :) :bounce:

A 4400 dont supports dx9 at all. Valve recommended that FX card should be played in the dx8 setting, for performance reasons.

It'll run horribly. You should really go burn your computer. And your house. And your car. And then run riot attacking people with matches...and giggle with glee...

*teehee*

:cheese:

yes, correct, just wanted to clarify that, you seemed to have worded it a bit oddly! :p

It'll obviously run fine, it just depends on how much you pump up the graphics
