The latest title in the Civilization series will be coming to Steam this autumn and it will come complete with Steamworks. There will also be a special Digital Deluxe Edition available on Steam, if you pre-order either the normal or the Deluxe Edition of the game you will receive a free map pack on release.[br]The Digital Deluxe Edition will feature the Babylonian civilization and their ruler, Nebuchadnezzar II, a behind the scenes video and the games soundtrack. According to the press release the bonus map pack will be called the Cradle of Civilization Map Pack: Mesopotamia and it will let players experience the traditional Western and Middle Eastern “Cradle of Civilization.” The pack will include the Fertile Crescent with the Nile River valley to the west and extending east down the Tigris and Euphrates river valleys to the Persian Gulf. Leaders will be able to explore new terrain, cultures and conquests.[br]In addition you can get 75% off previous Civ titles on Steam.

Good news, Civ games using steamworks is something I've wanted for a long time :)

Oh hell yeah!

I'm so getting the Digital Deluxe Edition.

Please don't tell me they're going to be following the trend of DLC as well.

Oh wow, there's a lot of rage from steam luddites on a bunch of the civ forums

I've never played these games, what are they like? Why are the soldier giant? And why is there a single screenshot of space?

Well, I can see where they're coming from.

Having to use a program in which to launch the game from can be seen as a little bit of a hassle.
Not to mention that it could potentially confuse people who are new to the series and have never used a program like Steam before.

It's a really straight-forward grand scale strategy game. Like, it's a 'my first grand-scale strategy'.

It's going from squares(civ1-4) to hexes(civ5), which means it's going from grand-scale turn based strategy to a form of a board wargame.

Good to hear it being on Steam, it's such a wonderful platform. Yeah, sure, it's DRM, but it's not just a hassle of a download program, it's like xfire, facebook, and direct2drive combined!

I hope they don't pull that shit with DLC. Part of Civ3 and 4 was the free mods by fans. If they throttle that in favor of $5 scenarios I'm gonna be mad.

As long as it doesn't affect single player random maps though, I'll deal w/ it.

the modern warfare 2 kiddies dealt with it

basically crack is ALMOST as addictive as civilization :p

must stay away from civ5......

Civ5 is going to eat my life. Every time I start a Civ game (usually civ4, civ2:test of time or alpha centauri/alien crossfire) its like I blink and all of a sudden it's 16 hours later. Good to see it with steamworks support.

I know exactly what you mean Ennui. I'm getting my friends together for a game as i've never got into the multiplayer aspect of it.

I Am glad to see more games take advantage of Steamworks.

Oh hey! Unless my goddamn ears deceive me the Jawaharlal Nehru quote in the Civ5 teaser is read by Keith David. Leg end.

Never played the Civ series, it always seemed rather daunting, that and I never have cared much for grand, turn based strategy.

Civilization is like 'my first grand-scale strategy game'. It's probably the simplest in that genre, if you can even count it in there.
