Sierra Studios Closed - R.I.P. ?

Oh god no! They are discontinuing the Hoyle card and puzzle franchise!!!!

Vivendi on its own also publishes games so I wouldn't worry too much, besides if Vivendi becomes incapable of it then it probably wouldn't take long for Valve to get another publisher anyway. Of course the required legal wrangling and business deals would probably take a little while, but that is of course a worse case scenerio, and I doubt the situation would get like that for Vivendi anytime before HL2 is released.

wait... what does this mean for HL2?! Sierra is publishing it!
Vivedi is more than capable of handling that.

It doesn't mean anything, Vivendi will still publish the game. Even if they didn't, I'm sure there's plenty of publishers clammering for HL2.

ah, so nice to know there are industry experts with insider knowledge on these boards.

My thoughts exactly

Honestly, if this can delay SC:G, who's to say it can't delay HL2?

yeah, why is everybody all of sudden the public relations and marketing professionals? :rolling:

When it is negative news you guys are so trusting. It sounds to me like this person is speculating that is the reason for the Ghost delay. Now I don't give a rats behind about SC:Ghost... so I don't know whats going on with it, but the fact is the site doesn't provide any evidence linking the two events.

CNN.com reports they're shutting down the Bellevue office.
Sierra is located in Bellevue.

He provides evidence. Obviously, it's not crystal clear evidence, but it is evidence none-the-less.

Okay, I am confused. I thought Sierra went bankrupt like 5 years ago (insert 4 year gaming gap) and I thought they were bought out by Vivendi. So how can Sierra go bankrupt again?

No, I am saying I don't see any evidence linking the closing of Sierra's last studio with the delay of SC:Ghost.

These closings also seem to be the source of the Starcraft Ghost delay.

hes not saying its the exact reason why SG:G is being delayed, but it seems to be the reason why. a leads to b, c is the conclusion. just putting peices of the puzzle thats all.

WOOO HOOO!!!

DIE SIERRA!!! I hope the devs find new jobs quickly, but the Sierra Studios can rot for all I care!

I hope they auction off all the contents of the warehouses....like canned games and such...like ITF. :)

I thought Starcraft Ghost was delayed because Nihilistic stopped working on it?

I'm sure it means that HL2 will be cancelled, just like every doomsayer in here wants.

The most that will happen is a delay, untill a new publisher is found. Remember, valve is funding the game, NOT VU.

"Vivendi Universal left a few things out in announcing the termination of 350 employees today"

Those bar stuards....Killing 350 innocent people just because they wanted to save money...When will they learn?

Find a new publisher? Vivendi is the publisher. In fact.. Sierra hasn't published a game in years. Vivendi just uses the Sierra name because of its name recognition.

Bastards. I can still recall the fluffy blue ball walking towards your screen saying "Phew! Sierra!"... Good old days...

lol you dont hear that everyday on a hl2 forum ;)

Can I say it again? I really hate that company. They constantly screw over their employees. I'm sad for the devs that just got laid off, but they had to know it was coming.

Unless sierra did to them what they did to the ITF devs.
"Hey, we're moving you 1500 miles to headquarters, your expence."

"Games cancelled, your fired. We're making Professional Bull Rider now.*
