I just bought Crysis, and when I try to install the game I kept getting an error message #1335: Something about corrupted file/s and or DVD drive being inaccessible (I forgot the whole message).
After researching and reading at lots of Crysis forums, I finally figured out and fixed it, by disabling McAfee and Windows Defender, finally installing the game. :|
The next thing I did is to see if there are any updates, and there happen be three patches": V. 1.1, 1.2 and 1.2.1. I had to either install V. 1.1 or 1.2 (preferably 1.2) to update the game (1.2.1 is an update to V. 1.2).
I want to remind you all, I'm patching the game before I did any modifications, configurations or even playing it, so The game folder is clean and untouched, also I do have McAfee and Windows Defender disabled, defragged HD, and all hardware are up to date, I'm also the only one uses this system so I'm the Admin.
Whenever I try to update the game (Either V. 1.1 or 1.2), the patch takes ridiculous amount of time to load, then verifies the game, and says "Copying New Files" Pow! Error Message.
The only option I have is "Finish" and when I press finish, the patch takes ridiculous amount of time again to exit. The system comes down to crawling, everything becoming unresponsive, including IE.
I have tried everything including: Retrying the patch countless times with different remedy each time, visiting countless forum and support sites, uninstall/reinstall the game. All to no-success.

After giving up, I did start playing the game to about the second mission, and I'm getting around 30-40FPS, expect where I had to rescue the scientist chic at the school, which is around 20FPS. At the village, which you have to covert your way in (I choose to announcement myself by taking a single Korean with a rocket, because I roll like that) then all hell broke loose on me (Thanks to the support guy I never saw) I fought 3000000 Koreans by myself, everything was basically smooth all the way except there, and that was even playable and not so bad.

Since Crysis behaved better than I thought without the patches, all High, 16xAA and 1680x1050, do I:

A) Really need these patches?

B) And if "Yes" WTF! should I do to install them?

Thanks In Advance.

Read what the patches fix and change. If it does not apply to you then no need to install the patches. Or if you think it would be good to get those changes, whatever they are, then keep looking for a way to install the patches.

Generally the patch will only be vital if you are getting crashes or to play multiplayer.

Looking at the error, it either can't find an installed file or a file in the patch. If its a file in the patch, redownloading from a different source may solve it.

Sorry Asus, I forgot to mention the fixes?

Considerable performance and stability gain is couple of the fixes in the "Read Me" file, along with more MP fixes, maps and PB fixes. These two patches are 130MB and 360MB, so there are lots of fixes and changes one would imagine, that's why I'm trying to ask those who have succeeded to install if they have noticed anything noticeable and how they managed to install these patches.

Thanks.

I'm not crashing but I sure will try the MP.
The error is quiet popular; if you Google "Crysis Error 1334" you'll see there's lots of results of people trying to figure what it is that's missing in the patch. I have tried (Since corruption was the first thing came to my mind) to DL from different places: EA, File Shack, File Front and Crytek, all in vain.

The main reason I need to install these patches is for the MP. There's a PB update and patch in one of these patches, and I know I cant log online without PB patch.

Thanks.

Pump.

Wow I guess that's it huh? Two replies?

I thought we had lots of Crysis playing hardware enthusiasts up in here at Hardware & Software, but I guess not. OK, I'll take my question somewhere else. :p

Have you tried deleting the patch install files and download them again? Maybe the cab file that gets mentioned in the error message is corrupt.

But then again it sounds like when you tried to install the game AND when patching from a file on your hard drive you get a similar error. Hard drive/dvd issue or with the cable?

Any updates to your MS installer through Windows Update? I know when installing some program recently it asked me to update the MS installer because the program used a newer version of it.

Well, nothing works. I tried all sorts of remedies, including updating DVD firmware, uninstalling Nero and stuff I cant even remember, all to no success.
I have search the Internet and no one seems to have a clear answer, including EA and Crytek support, except the usual "delete this, be an admin, DL again" routine.

I choose to play the game as it is (No patch). There was one time my system felt like a it has bullet wound; at the excavation site, where the fossil comes to live and freezes the scientist. Other than that, I don't seem to be lagging a lot (20-40FPS) which is playable, and once I tweaked Nvidia Control Panel, the game even became more smooth.

Thanks guys for the help.

Well now I have a brand new problem:
In the assault mission, when I capture the harbour and takeout the last flying helicopter and the ship, open the gate and join the tank battalion. As soon as the tank commander orders the main gunner to blow a hole in the tunnel, an as soon as the gunner fires a round, and I'm ready to join tank crew, the entire screen goes black and stays there. If I press escape I can see myself in transparency behind the main option menu of the game but, if I hit escape again, I got nothing but black screen. I can hear the music, my footsteps and the gun sound but I can't see anything.
I think the copy I got is defected, I'll have to go back to Best Buy and see if I can get an exchange.

Wish me Luck.

I'm assuming you aren't using a no-DVD patch or something right?

I'd try uninstalling it, rebooting, and reinstalling it -- make sure your A/V & Firewall is disabled when you install it, with nothing running.

then reboot and play the game for a minute.

then quit and try to install the patch.

Read the fine print. You may need to just install the latest patch, or you may need to install them all in sequence.

and after you install the patches, if you have problems you may need to start a new game unfortunately

Wow! Virus I have done everything you mentioned there man, literally. Nothing worked.
I have decided to just play the game without patches, since I did not notice anything to cry about, out the box, then this happens.

I'm headed back to Best Buy today and the first guy who says "Can I help sir find something?" will be chased by me with an aluminum bat. ... No, I'll just ask him politely, if I could get an exchange, and he'll probably come back cleverly with his blue shirt and a khaki pants and say "Are you sure your system meets the minimum specifications of the game?" Then I'll chase him with a bat.

Just hand him a small piece of paper with

Crosshair 0804 | X2 5600 (3Ghz) | ZALMAN 9700 | 2X1GB Crucial Ballistix PC2 8000 | eVGA 8800GTX SC (SLI) | TT ToughPower 850w | Seagate Barracuda SATA II | SB X-Fi Falal1ty | L G5 | L G15 | Antec 1200 | Syncmaster 226BW | XP Pro (SP3)|

On it.

Brilliant, then, he may hit the floor and cry out "Sir, don't hurt me, I'll give you whatever you want" while the rest of Geek Squad freaking out "He's got a gun!!!"

I'll see what happens.

Well, I went to Best Buy and said to the Geek Squad guy "Sir could I have an exchange" The guy said "What's wrong?" I burst out tears and said "It wont work, and half the maps don't load, and I cant even install the patches" He wrapped his arms around me and said "There, there my boy, there's no need to cry, here, take this replacement copy and if this doesn't work, bring it back and we'll give you another" I said to the guy "Thank you sir and may God bless you and your family" Then I skip my way out of there with JOooY!

I halfway fixed the problem: I can now load the rest of the missions but I still cant install the patches. Bummer!
