Signing up for military service?

So wheres the heirarchy between NCOs and sergeants to the officers? By officers Im assuming we're talking Lieutenants and up.

Not really. People die, fact.

Its inevitable, one day, you too will die Monkey. Just because they were killed in combat, even if not armed, well it was bound to happen one day anyway.

Hey numbers, you've got a new challenger for "most retarded opinion"!

Nah, I said it better.

Rumsfeld put it quite well. "Collateral Damage" hehehehehe...

Eh, at least the government feeds and clothes us for about 2 to 3 years of our lives.

So do ours, its called a generous and broken welfare system. :3

But I'd have to start wearing tracksuits and have a shit-ton of kids and I like neither.

Government pays you to do it.

Rather handsomely.

Why would you be against all wars? Being a pacifist in a non pacifist world is bound to get you ass raped. Best is to be a defensive-ist. You generally don't start fights unless you're attacked or it is your only choice.

Why exactly do you have to be in perfect physical condition for the Air force?

Exactly. You wait until they hit you, and then you hit them with everything you've got, take their oil, loot their gold, enslave their children, scorch the land and burn the skies, destroy their livelihoods a hundred thousand times over until the world sees you standing upon the broken and shattered bodies of your enemies, and finally gives you the respect that you deserve.

Why exactly do you have to be in perfect physical condition for the Air force?

If you're a pilot, you'll be experiencing extreme pressures and temperatures, joints getting pulled from the sockets, just before they get dislocated, reduced blood flow to extremities as well as the brain, increased cranial pressure, lung strain, and the like. You'd also have to make split second decisions while aware of everything, including your surroundings in the XYZ axises.

And you know, you have to fly over populated areas while carrying ten thousand pounds of explosives.

Conan! What is best in life?!

Conan! What is best in life?!

TO SEE YOUR ENEMIES DRIVEN BEFORE YOU AND TO HEAR THE LAMENTATIONS OF THEIR WOMEN

This should be an official slogan for the Marines or something.

Numbers, is that sarcasm?

Blah, i don't believe it's that bad. I've seen sissies live trough 9g forces. Besides it's not like you do extreme maneuvers all the times. I bet 90% of the time you're just cruising in a straight line. And i'm sure the cockpit has some internal heating.
My hunch is that anyone who is at least somewhat physically active can do it.

This reminds me, I never actually signed up for that. So if you guys don't hear from me Unlce Sam got me.

I often think about a military career if Uni doesn't work out. Problem is, I can't think of a military I could join with clear conscience. Do the US let foreigners join?

Hey, good for you. :D I do hope that you get to fly. My friend passed all the physicals and aced the academic tests for the Air Force Academy, but he developed some kind of little twitch in his left hand - a minor nerve condition - and the board failed him. Little things get dreams ruined. :/

Also, officer is good. But you do know that you'll prolly have to go university first, right (so 17 would be no-go, :p)? Or is there some kind of Air Force officer training program in the US, other than ROTC or West Point and its equivalents?

Lastly, on a personal note, is your mother OK with your plans? :p I just want to know how other mothers react when told about plans of military service. Mine beat the crap out of me.

To be a commissioned officer, yeah I'll need to go to a university. My most major physical flaw is my bad eyesight, but that can be fixed with laser surgery(hopefully).

And by sign up I mean pre-register. I'd leave after high school was over(after I'm 18), I've already gone to a recruiting office. I already meet their little pre-requisites as well as took the aptitude test.

I scored in the 99th percentile, although I know I've told this already. Just means I scored better than everyone else who took the test, just about.
Scored something like a total of 98 out of 100, and to be accepted as a recruit you only need a 19 or something.

My entire family is behind me. Probably since I'm not particularly keen to go into the frontline Infantry.

Sergeant and Corporal are both NCOs. Corporal and Specialist are both E-4 rank, though Specialist rank is not NCO. All of these ranks are enlisted.

when I got my registration thing, it was interesting to me that they used my nick name. I sign my real name on anything to do with money so I couldn't help but wonder how they got that.

Fun fact: if you register to vote in the US you're automatically registered. I didn't sign up at all but after I signed up to vote, oh hay, I had a card.

I've also been on a host of meds that I'm pretty sure de-qualifies you for the draft, so if for some reason America ever can pull off doing a draft again, I'm probably good anyway.

I was gonna go with the homosexual excuse... but unfortunately(FORTUNATELY) that may end up going away.

Heh. I dunno if I'd be able to live with myself, and it would certainly be difficult to keep up the charade. If they ever found out that I was lying, they'd throw me in military prison!

Yeah, I signed the selective service thing when I turned 18. Doesn't matter anyways. I actually signed up for the army and am waiting for a spot at meps. What a boring day that's going to be. u_u

Yeah, I had to sign up when I turned 18. I crossed my fingers while doing it though, shhh don't tell the man.

I'm sure that it will be made up with a not-so-boring first day of BCT.

I never signed up when I was 18.

........but I'm now in the military D:

This kind of thing needs to be applied to the UK I believe.

We're a country full of chavs who skip school and drag the country down as we get an education deficit.

A few years in military training would square that away. Would love to see a chav tell a staff sergeant to go ***k himself ''coz I is well 'ard, innit'', and have his face smashed against his locker door.

Yeah because we all so dearly love off-duty chav squaddies, please, give us more of them -.-

The government knows everything about you

I didn't want to read all of this, but yeah in the US everyone is supposed to register for the draft. The only reason I believe a draft would ever take place is if the US came under direct attack and the standing army had dwindled to nothing. Vietnam made the draft the most undesirable thing any current governing body could do and I don't think anyone's going to start it up all haphazardly.

There are advantages to having your draft card. I can't remember what the are at the moment but I know they include a lot of government related good stuff that you'd want.

Oh. In Korea, they're regarded as enlisted.
