Yes, if they pull it off right. Not jumping out scares, but tension and atmosphere.

Noo no no, they need both

i hate it when they play loud music when sumthin "scary" happens. i only jump cuz of the noise, honest

I think it's cheap on the directors part to have someone suddenly pop into the frame accompanied by a loud noise. That's a cheap trick. Considering the source material, the Silent Hill movie should never have to resort to that. The scariest parts in Silent Hill were due to atmosphere and tension. An example would be the haunted house in SH3. That scared me to death when I first started it. Great mood and atmosphere is the key.

Should be good....

They've also sold the rights for Quake, Halflife, Doom, Duke Nukem and other games, but never made movies :S

Yeah but doom? isnt movie material, half-life is but it wouldnt be a good one (I can tell they would screw it up so bad), Duke Nukem isnt cause its really cheesy, and quake didnt have a very good following besides our generation...

Doom made a good couple books though

Silent Hill is definatly Movie Material

oh yeah, I remember reading those doom books. There were four right? They were pretty good.

I loved the game franchise, but the movie WILL suck. Why? The company is FRENCH. They are notorious for making movies that are nicely referred to as an acquired taste but that most people just see as weird. They have contributed NOTHING cool except for fries and that movie The Professional.

4 yeah, the last two sucked

Knee Deep in the Dead and Hell on Earth were the good ones

Where can I find these books?

Hmm I bought all 4 when they came out in 95... I suppose you could try ebay

Or search book shops online for

DOOM Knee Deep In The Dead
DOOM Hell On Earth
DOOM Infernal Sky
DOOM End Game

(Infernal Sky and End Game sucked)

or you could search for the author

Dafydd ab Hugh and Brad Linaweaver

yeah I remember them now. Hell on Earth was the best IMO.

Edit: Silent Hill is weird. It's fitting that the French handle it (that's not a mock at the French, I'm French).

qckbeam, I think we should jack this thread --

mwahaha, new topic - the doom books

actually I think Knee Deep in the Dead was better... clean, simple, you could really hear Fly in your head when he spoke, and his relationship growth with arlene and finding her in the first was awesome.. all the signs she left and such

Yep....so did you make a av for nw909?

Thread jacked

It's been awhile since I read Knee Deep in the Dead. I honestly don't remember alot of it, although I do remember liking it. The end of Hell on Earth was cool though, if I remember correctly. They were on the top story of some skyscraper and demons were trying to get in the room. Then they did something with a boot? I don't know if this makes any sense or if I'm just pulling stuff out of my ass. I just remeber the first two were good. The third one sucked, except for one part I can't remember to well (something to do with a demon and a meat cleaver I think), and I never got to the fourth one (my school confiscated it ) I'm going to re-read the damn books now since I can't remember much about them.

I don't know what your talking about...

Buy and read the first two books... lengthy but very good

I don't like to read books all that much.I'm just another lazy america bastard.

this is way off topic but I also suggest the book "IT" by Stephen King. Great book, really, I love it! Just look at my avatar!

Ah... those two books really got me into reading, now I read all the time

heyy... join in anyways tred

Edit: And why does the /me command not work anymore?

how old were you when you read Knee Deep in the Dead and Hell on Earth MrWhite? I remember trying to buy them at the store and for a long time my parents wouldn't let me becasue they felt I was too young.

I was... like... 10, 11, or something, I didnt read them until i was 14... my parents have always been open about things, cause they raised me right

hmm hell on earth? thats doom 2

they should make a fifth book

iirc the 4 titles for doom1 were

knee deep in the dead
the shores of hell
inferno
thy flesh consumed

ahhhh good times

Well they're about 8 years too late to make that descision

I never really understood some of my parents ideas. I was allowed to play Doom and Wolfenstein3d when I was really young, but I couldn't buy a book. Kinda strange really. Other than that my parents are very open to pretty much anything.

Edit: I think the fourth book was entitled endgame, not sure though.

parents... we always find them screwed up yet we always seem to turn into them ;)

hmm... Catch 22, Farenhaiet 451, *coughbravenewgirlcough*

yeah I just read Fahrenheit 451 myself. I recently read the Count of Monte Cristo too (unabridged), great book also. Is brave new girl a good book then?
