Hi all. I'm spearhead, on of the admins at the Silent Thunder MOD. We've been planning quite an extensive list over the past few days and we're currently part way through creating our website (sorry, but it's still not done so it's a little bland right now). we've finished off the main pages and you can get a feel as to what the mod will be about.

At the moment we're in need of pretty much every position there is. We have at least 3 map makers, who are currently learning on the job and we have a few weapons in the making that we'll have rendered and on the site in a few days to a week or so.

In a nut shell, the mod will let you play as several nations special forces, such as the US NAVY SEALs and Russian Spetznas, and will be used in realistic yet at the same time fun missions. Each unit will get a 6 mission mini-campaign with missions ranging from hostage rescue, assasination, intelligence gathering (more fun than you think), bodyguard duty and simple patrols gone down the toilet because of some thoughtful parties ambush!

You can find the site here . Again it's not quite finished yet, but you should get the idea at least.

If you're interested, or have some idea's then please email me (it's on the site) or discuss it here. I'll come back regularly to check up on things.

Anyway, enjoy what's there of the site! I'll edit this post when appropriate with any updates and clearly label them to save spamming the topic list.

At the moment we are in need of artisits to hel visualise the ideas were coming up with, if you would like to apply, go to our

ok, great rampage of replies there. I thought id drop by and give you an update on what the mod plans to do....
We have planned to create 3 packs, each pack will contain 2 campaigns for two different global units, these are:

Pack 1
  • US Navy SEALs
  • Polish GROM

Pack 2
  • UK Special Air Service
  • Russian Spetsnaz

pack 3
*this pack is undecided at the moment*
Possibly terrorists and Mercenaries

As we are still planning the 2nd and 3rd packs, i'll give you tho locations we shall be using for the US Navy SEALs campaign. I would show you pictures but these forums wont allow it (for some odd and mesterious reason)

Navy SEAL locations:

  • Whitley island, San Francisco (Training)(Based on Fasnet island, Ireland)
  • Alcatraz island, San Francisco
  • NYC Library, New York
  • Oil fields, Iraq
  • Offshore oil rig, Iraq
  • Office complex, Los Angeles
  • United Nations building, New York

Hope you like the choice of units and locations, msg back with any comments or suggestions. if youd like to join the team, please email me

Wow, you plan to do something with the Polish special forces - now that sets you apart from the rest. Any mod with Poland in it is after my own heart.
The only thing I see wrong is that, from reading your outline, the mod sounds like an updated Counter Strike: Deleted Scenes. It needs a little more to make it rise above the rest. Oh, and the fact you need a coder. The code for this shouldn't be too difficult - all you need is to code the weapons, and a few new AI units, and the rest actually falls down to the mappers and their creative use of Source's IO system. I'd advise picking up a few tutorials and doing the C++ bit yourself, as unattached coders are about as scarce as hens' teeth here.
Good luck, anyways.

personaly i believe that counter strike is an awfull game, this mod is not trying to be like cs, its trying to be as different as possible. We are in need of coders and programmers because we plan to make some complicated scripts and features for the mod. Unfortuantly i cannot tell you about these features at the moment as we are still thinking about them.

As for the polish forces, we have decided to make a campaign for them as we have never seen them in a game. In the many military games that ive played, ive never seen a polish unit, not even a polish mod. We plan to use the beautiful scenery in poland and the fantastic old towns.

Will there be the other super things that Poland produce (namely, alcohol and women) in the game?

Try to make your game less-than-super-realistic, as I think it'd really put it a step ahead of all the one-shot-kill stamina-system super-slow-paced FPS games. Aim for gameplay like HL itself - lots of ducking for cover, but still enough for some old-fasioned heroics.

Yay for Poland!
