Simultaneous release?

I know the release date is still evading us, but is it known how HL2 is going to be released? I mean, are all the RETAIL packages going to be release at the same time? And even more important: Is HL2 going to have a worldwide simultaneous RETAIL release (for you wiseguys that means other than steam)?

(or are we Europeans going to have to wait an additional, say, 2 weeks like it was the case with e.g. DOOM 3?)


Didn't VALVe mention it sometime in the past?

Yes, will be released all around the world at the same time.

Weather or not we will have "hardcopys" in everyones hands around the world on <<insert release date here>> is something else, but we could all have it on our PCs on that date...unlocked that is

This is interesting because when Doom 3 released (retail) it was out in Australia up to 1 week before the US in some cases.

I was reading on a Doom 3 forum of guys in the US not getting the game after I had already completed it. Because Australia is 1 day ahead of the US we normally have to wait until the day / date rolls over there before we get the goodies. It will be interesting to see if the HL2 behaves the same as the Doom 3 release at retail launch. I hope it does

Please note that I am talking about hard retail copies here, not Steam releases.

mm, we will have to wait an see i think. Personally, i think that the US will get it first, followed by Europe, probably UK first, then all other countries. I think its just not logisticaly possible, to have all those copys shipped all over the world, intime for a synchronised world wide release!!

and you know what, if i even see a hint of a countdown clock in my local GAME, (just like the Pokemon Colleseum one) i'll rip it down in a mad rage, and..take it home lol for my own pleasure!!!

I am sceptical about the worldwide RETAIL release. I am sure Valve is aiming for that and I am assuming VU concurs with it, but is it logistically possible (if we assume HL 2 is being released within the next 4 weeks)?

What is the capacity and production rate of VU manufacturing plants? Do they have manufacturing plants in any European country? Or will the hard copies be pressed elsewhere and afterwards be shipped and distributed in Europe?

Just curious.

id assume they'll have EVERYTHING churning out these puppys. I mean, a cd can be made in something like 3minutes at home...and after watching a programme once on sky..i think its something like 20seconds to make a disc and put the data to it in production.

Printing is the same, i mean it takes only a minute max to print a box. Maybe they have multiglobal factories like you said, this would reduce the need to ship them from the US, all over the world.

Thing is....we all know how easy things can "accidentally" fall of the backs of lorrys. :naughty:

I do work at gaming retail chain, but

they never get the collector's editions

of games so that is making me search for

other options...
