Making a new thread for it for those who see it tomorrow or whenever. I'll be seeing it tomorrow, opening day, can't wait. Gotten good reviews so far. And I love the comics so how could I not love this?

I think they really need to hit high with this movie to gain any profit. I mean the cost for all the actors alone, first thing I thought when I saw the trailer.

It'll be tricky to get much revenue, especially since the movie is rated R (almost NC-17 I hear). But then again, it's not like it's impossible. There have been many successful R movies that have achieved box office success.

Mmm... I can't wait. It looks like it will rock my pants off. :naughty: ;)

The movie looks absolutely amazing. I don't know anything about the comic books, but i'm hyped for the movie. Gonna see it sunday hopefully, to avoid the release and after release day traffic. There will still be some, but not as much.

It was like $28 million or so. $20 something million. I read that in Newsweek; they commented how it looked like it costed twice as much.

Anticipation is surging to a high degree. It looks promising. Seeing it this weekend, hopefully.

Lots of blood. Red blood, white blood, yellow blood.
There's a dog chewing on a live boy's leg, ripping of genitals, prostitutues heads on a wall, hanging, shooting.
So says the NY Times article on it.

Rodriguez wrote the book on making movies on the cheap. He did all the special effects for the Spy Kids movies at his freaking HOUSE in Austin. Sin City didn't cost much at all.

I'll be seeing it tommorow as well.

I heard this movie kicks ass. My friend back home saw it with some buddies a couple weeks ago in a sneak peek. I have my tickets purchased for tomorrow night already :) Can't wait.

I'm going to see it on Saturday, with a friend... hopefully it kicks ass. :)

Rated R? It'll be an 18 then. :(

Damn right it'll be an 18+. From what I've read: tons of gore, loads of nudity, graphic decapitations, and un-relenting violence. So far it's getting mixed reviews. There were many who didn't like the graphic nature of the film, while others have praised it for its style.

Here's a review from the one of the best reviewers out there:

Yes, it's Roger Ebert. And he ends up giving this movie...

**** Four Stars!!

im gonna see this one but probably not tomorrow or any time during the weekend because i will be busy.

so probably during the coming week.

Does anyone know which segment Tarantino directed? Id be interested to know that before i see the film

I saw it last night at the very first possible showing. It's BRILLIANT, SO violent (it's basically all action), gorgeous women, amazingly fitting film noir b movie dialogue and tons of voice overs. Kevin is creepy as hell. So so so so so good.

I saw it last night, i work at a theator so i can preveiw movies. I was disapointed with it, very very violent, and not really all that great. The acting was on top, but the writing seemed a little off, none of my fellow co-workers have any idea what went on in the end scene and thought it kinda was a let down, still worth the price of admissision if you like old Dick Tracy voice overs like me, i am a sucker for film noir, that and the movie was a visiual feast. 6/10, could have been so much better.

I agree, but I don't think it could have been better; it followed the comics to a T. After I saw it last night I actually said to my girlfriend "Amazing stories, but I'm not sure a lot of people will think it translated well as a movie."
It's something the average Joe Schmoe might not appreciate. Hell, I could have have watched it with no sound, it was beautiful.

It cost 'only' 45.000.000$

And yes, looking forward to see it :) though it comes out in May here :frown:

I believe he directed the scene in the car (like what you saw in the trailers) where one of the characters is held at gunpoint. Obviously to pay homage to Pulp Fiction.

That was actually one of my least favourite scenes. The way car moves is way too cheesy. You'll see what I mean.

I always felt Miller's stories would make poor movies ...just becasue he's big on mood ..which in this age of short attention spans translates to "boring" unless there's action in every scene ...also Sin city is a collection of stories and anthology movies tend to be hit or miss

I'm looking forward to it, hopefully it'll lead to other more serious comic adaptations ..oh I wish they'd make a Grendel movie based of Matt Wagner's comics ...or Stray Bullets by dave Lapham

Sin City was amazing. Great film noir. It was great seeing the comics in film form. I loved it.

I agree with this guy totally. The movie just blew me away. There are scenes that are show shockingly violent, I can't even tell you about it. I wont even put spoiler tags over it. You just have to see it with fresh eyes, and just be blown away.

Does anybody know what the Canadian rating is? Its been a while since a movie has been put in the "R" category.

Great movie. Even better if you have read the comics.

Here's something I noticed in the movie. If you didn't know, Frank Miller wrote Robocop 2 and 3, which were the first two movies he worked on. Well in the end with Hartigan driving they pan down to the passenger seat where there are two guns. One of those guns is Robocop's gun. He also ends up killing someone with it later on.

this movie was amazing! the actors they got to play in it are all top notch and the art direction they went towards is perfect! another awesome movie directed by robert rodriguez and props to quentin tarentino

EDIT: lets not forget frank miller, the creator of sin city

Tarantino also directed the scene with-----not sure if this is a spoiler but...

Dwight is talking to the head of "jackie boy" in the car.

I wouldn't be surprised if it got an R rating, i would only recommend the age of 16-17 and up. This is NOT for the whole family.

It's 18+. Canada is less strict about its ratings (an R rated American movie usually gets a 14+ in Canada), so when something is 18+, you know it deserves it

Its gonna be hard for other comic movies to compare to Sin City. It was just perfect in translation from page to film. Who knows, maybe this'll bring back interest in film noir again.
