Ritual Entertainment has released a media update containing new screenshots and an interview from the developers working on the SiN Episodes. The first episode to come out of the SiN franchise is titled Emergence, and while the game is taking shape, we still have to wait just a little bit longer to play this gorgeous game.[br]

[br]SiN is being developed on Valve’s Source Engine and will be distributed through Steam in the near future.

Agreed, there definetly getting more custom content done and taking out the HL2 models/textures that were in the first screenies. Which is teh awesome, this is what i want by christmas, but thats not gonna happen. :)

The middle picture is suffering from DOOM (tm) symptoms.. check out the octagonal top of the head.

This game probably doesn't have a lot of polygons, but the quality of textures will make up for it.

I agree :(

That Jessica Cannon doesn't look nearly as cute here as we've seen her in her earlier appearances.

Interesting SS. Some gfx needs work tho. By the time this games out it will look like hl1. Hell it looks bad even now. Textures are nice tho.

I think it looks gorgeous especially screenshot 1.

I just hope that the dev team can keep running on full bore enough to get the episodes out on time. I can say that I would feel more sure about episodic content if all of the Source game devs released their stuff at a time sooner than "when it's done". I know it makes for better content, but it kinda defeats the purpose.

looks amazing:O !! cant wait to play it.

Looks a little too much like HL2 for my tastes. I've always disliked games that remind you of other games because of their game engine. ala Quake 4 looks too much like Doom 3.

Why is this on hl2.net? Not to diss SiN, which looks really good, but doesn't it have its own site by Chris_D, or is somebody trying to tap into an established fanbase...

Because HL2.net isn't just purely for HL2 but its mods aswell, so really it does belong here aswell as its original site.

Anyway, looks brilliant, cannot wait, also can someone remind me, are the episodes free or will they cost so much each month, if so how much or hasn't a price been decided yet ??

it just screams HL2 to me, from the textures to the skyboxes. models look very nice but I am not very impressed with it overall.

QFT, it could look a lot nicer than it does right now. Are they using HDR in the final release?

of course. the best thing about making a game on source, is the hundreds of thousands of people who will buy it simply cause its on source and in steam.

While it does look like a hl2 mod, i love tha fact that they actually hand painted the skins, rather then use the photoskins. I think a cell shader would make this game look alot more distinct

I thought the first screenshot was DooM 3 :|

Actually, it looks more like F.E.A.R.

I think the game looks sweet though, I loved the original SIN so I can't wait for this.

Oh crap I forgot you existed

And Quake 4 didn't look like Doom 3, but it sure as hell stabbed me in the face all the time with those stone hard black-as-night shadows :|

No it isn't an HL2 mod, unless you think that Quake IV is a Doom 3 mod and Call of Duty is a Quake III mod.

If it is being made on the source engine then it is generally known as HL2 mod.

Wouldn't that make Half-Life 1 a Quake 1 mod?

That's a good point. I think the difference between a mod and a similiar game is that mods don't have complete access to an engine. If you look at the Source SDK, it only allows you to compile a single DLL that you can install within the game "modifying it". It's impossible to completely compile the engine on its own, because that is not given to you. A full on game made with the same engine (like SiN or Q4) has had full access to it's game engine. It doesn't just change the rules and switch content, it modifies to engine to it's own needs.

Anyway I think, that with SiN, we're seeing the mod as it is being developed. Therefore many of the screens and such are still developmental or made on short notice. Personally I wish they would have announced the game right before the first episode released, so while we're ogling these screenies, ritual is well on with progress on episode 2 (and 3). With that being said, I like the art direction that SiN is taking. It seem hipper and reminds me of games like Oni and even Halo a little.

I'm psyched that they're releasing SiN (original version) on steam. I played a demo of it a way back and I really enjoyed it. I hope ritual decides to release some more of it's legacy games on steam. I really wish I could play heavy metal FAKK 2.

I would still buy this just because i have been getting an exesive amount of money lately.

F*** knows tbh, I have always seen mods that were made on a particular engine as a mod of that game, but that is only because thats how i learnt it from other people when i first started out on PC gaming years ago.

Haven't you ever heard of engine licensing then? Deus Ex is an Unreal mod? Call of Duty is a Quake 3 mod?

So many nowadays are based on the game engines of others. Thief DS and Deus Ex use versions of the Unreal engine; Call of Duty and Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Medal of Honor are all Quake 3 underneath; Vampire and Sin Episodes are based on Source. Half-Life is built from the original Quake engine.

Mods need the original game they're modded from to run, foo'!

Wow, never knew that :|

Is there anything you don't know Sulky :p

YA RLY! [mode=invisible]6char[/mode]

EDIT: Damn you Dan Turk!

ok then ...... now i really am confused

(DAN TURK :| .... ain't he the black doctor off scrubs :p )

I think this is suffering from looking a lot like Half-Life 2, but looks can be deceptive. Deus Ex obviously didn't play like Unreal, and SiN did not play like Quake II. While I'm slightly disappointed at the visuals, I know that SiN:E will do gameplay very differently to HL2. If it's anything like SiN we can expect a much less linear level design than the HL series.

P.S. JC has my glasses (apart from mine aren't tinted)

P.P.S. This time round JC looks a lot less someone I might hit as punishment for being

[Edit] I didn't see Darwinia get a news item for being released on Steam...

C'mon folks, look at their gallery. Does that look like Half Life 2 to you? I'm not worried.

the env looks nice but the girl looks ugly to me. Oh well thats not the point, if the gameplay is good then its fine by me...
...
...
...oh to hell with it I like a good looking character!

Good Ol' Crates

Ahh, good ol' crates to prop up and populate the map (look at the middle image).

"stfu" This lovely piece of Internet jargon (noob dialect, I believe) always makes me laugh.

Of course games with similar engines look the same. How many Half Life 2 mods look nothing like Half Life 2? I haven't played every single one, but they all look like variations of the original - I wonder why? Quake 4 is built with the Doom 3 engine, ergo they look similar. Even the outdoor scenes in broad daylight that certainly weren't a large part of Doom 3 look the same; it's the same engine.

This is why I had high hopes for Dystopia - the "online" world seemed like it would be so different.

...now that I think of it, what games use Monolith's engine? Not sure what it's called, but the one from AVP2? Is it the same one as Tron 2.0, because those definitely look different.
