I'm looking for tips on single-player RPGs that have a focus on crafting, i.e. the player creating his own equipment, weapons etc.

After having been thoroughly dissappointed by the crafting system in Dragon Age: Origins, I'm looking for something that has deeper crafting-systems.

For an idea of what I consider deep, I take for example the roguelike UnReal World, or the more famous one, Dwarf Fortress!

Roguelikes are a form of RPGs too so recommending me those are fine as well!

Thanks in advance for any helpful tips.

Also, the theme of the game doesn't matter, it can be fantasy, or sci-fi, or medieval etc!

Really? Seemed kind of simple to me.

Have you tried Diablo 2? It may not be complex... but there's tons of stuff you can make, and it gets ridiculously difficult to do it at higher levels.

Also if you've done DF, there's no point in looking for anything else. I mean, you have to smelt your own damn metal in DF. Nothing can compare.

Yeah already tried all of those, but comeon, there has to be some unknown gems out there!

Age and platform doesn't matter, be it on the NES from 1988, or on PS2, or modern PC.

The Witcher had some crafting (well, augmentations) in it, you could give that a try...

I just started playing Dragon Age Origins and there's plenty of crafting in it.

Knights of the Old Republic 2

I don't really think there was a focus on crafting. You could put different upgrades in to weapons and armor but I don't remember it being very deep. Though sometimes I just ignored workbenches altogether.

Morrowind with the crafting mod you can make ANYTHING, it gets pretty insane, and realistic too, you can have a knife and a piece of wood and make things from spoons, plates, etc, then then you get get a hammer + some ore (you mine, you can even make your own pickaxe lol), go to a smith/anvil make your own weapons.. It's really crazy with that mod in but it's awesome for a 'living off the land' character.

Doesn't Monster Hunter have crafting?

The entire item system is based around crafting. You basically cannot find/buy equipment and have to forge everything from stuff you gather. Go with this game if you like the idea of making everything yourself.

Rogue Galaxy (PS2) has a simple yet addicting synthesis system. You level up your weapons and then you can combine them to form new ones. There are tons of weapons and it's always fun to keep combining to cooler and cooler weapons.

Got a link to this mod?

It sounds really awesome, especially if they add in the need for my PC to eat regularly and (maybe) sleep!

In Ocarina of Time there is an epic quest to get the Biggoron's sword. :|

sounds like they pulled the music from a daytime soap D:

I think NWN2 and it's expansions have quite a lot of crafting possibilities. The first expansion in particular would be the best in that respect.
