Singularity

Jesus the Hard difficulty is brutal at first. Once you can buy Hero upgrades and perks its easier though. Except Phase Ticks. I'm stuck at that part where you fall into the room full of phase ticks and once you turn the wheel they come flooding in. Little bastards take almost half your health in one hit even with almost fully upgraded health.

I would have thought this would be especially true of a game that tries to be deliberately old-skool.

Old-school? Serious Sam, Painkiller and the Unreal Tournament series are "Old-school".

Limited number of weapons that you can carry, slow moving character, sprint and iron sights.
This is as far away from it as you can get.

Something important I'd like to know-

In older gameplay videos they showed that you could use your time-device to age objects enemies were taking cover behind, or to age a building's wall and have it collapse on an enemy. Can you still do this in the final product, or have they removed that much freedom with the weapon from the game?

Goddammit. I would have bought the game on a whim if I could age and de-age shit like Doctor Manhattan :(

I've been keeping my eye on the prices at Amazon, is the one that comes with the Graphic Novel worth it or no?

UNLESS YOU LIKE IMMERSION AND SHIT, GOD

Oh hey, a sci-fi gauntlet that can warp time and age anything. Except for the fact that you can manipulate only the objects the game lets you...
Immersion out the window.
So don't give me that shit.

eastern europe has made you a bitter man. I've never played Singularity but an aging gun sounds p. neat.

God damn it.

I had a choice between Singularity and Sniper Ghost Warrior. I brought Sniper Ghost Warrior, because I have seen 4 player podcast play singularity and thought it was mediocre. I also enjoy stealth games.

****, what a bad decision.

Did you snipe anyone?

More importantly perhaps, are you a ghost warrior?

You didn't think to try the Sniper Ghost Warrior demo first?

It stands to reason you're not going to be able to age every single thing/wall/item/ in the game, that would be a level designing nightmare. The game adequately explains the reasoning behind the aging powers being locked to certain items and the mechanic does nothing to destroy the immersion once you get underway.

Yes I sniped someone.

And NO I'M NOT GODDAMN GHOST WARRIOR.

A stealth game where stealth DOESN'T ****ING WORK.

Enemies could damage me whiles facing and firing in the opposite direction. Enemies could detect me whiles I'm wearing a camo suit in a jungle 50 miles away from them.

Should have gotten singularity. At least I could slow time. For those of you out there, get Singularity. Just get singularity, seriously, get singularity. Really, singularity is the game for you.

You didn't think to try the Sniper Ghost Warrior demo first?

I discovered the game when I was in the store. I read sniper simulation on the box, which to me hinted a spiritual successor to Sniper Elite. Big ****ing Mistake.

^This. I have yet to play the full version of Sniper, but if the demo is a decent representation of the full game then it's no competition.

Ah..Unlucky. Though the whooping big "City Interactive" logo on the box should have been enough of a deterrent. :D

Yeah i tried the demo for sniper ghost warrior, not very impressed and I didn't run into any obvious glitches or bugs =/

God damn it.

Yeah, I remember in older gameplay videos you could deage all sorts of objects and covers, even age large support beats and pillars to send rubble down on Russian Soldiers. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of environment objects you can age and revert, though. But it does make for some interesting puzzles. And the TMD is still alot of fun to use (and can make hard enemies a bit easier to deal with).

I do hope we'll see some good single player DLC for this title in the future, but I doubt that will happen.

Ehhh, I decided to pick it up. I found the special edition for 30 dollars, it comes with a graphic novel.

I just beat the game. I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected; probably the most fun I've had in an FPS in a long while. A bit underrated.

PC Gamer reviewed the game, and they gave it a 68%.

http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/07/31/singularity-review/

Honestly, I think they were too harsh on this game. In fact, PC gamer has been like this lately, if it doesn't feel and play more like a PC Game than a console game then it gets points off. I do agree with them that the Story is garbage for the most part and perhaps much of the gameplay borrows alot of ideas from other games, but the gameplay is still alot of fun. And I do like games that have you do a bit more than "Go from point A to point B, and kill alot of enemy soldiers and monsters on the way". Singularity isn't perfect, but it certainly didn't deserve a 68%. I'd give it 4 out of 5 or 8 out of 10. Maybe at the lowest 3.5/5 or 7/10. I haven't subscribed to PC Gamer in nearly 10 years because of their decrease in quality and because of their *very* snobbish attitude.

PC mags give a game that you like a bad review = those mags suck.
PC mags give a game that you like a good review = always been a great mag.
PC mags give a game you haven't played yet a bad review = the game sucks.

Sometime after 2000 PC Gamer had lost their quality. Before then, I liked the magazine even when we both didn't always agree on the same game. The articles, editorials, and previews were always great to real and I really liked their humble nature. But around 2001 they started to loose their quality. What irked me even more was that they started to act stuck up and arrogant. I never resubscribed to their magazine after that. I did pick up an issue of theirs back at late 2004 when they had an exclusive preview of Quake 4 and they hyped the game alot. When they mentioned the Multiplayer, they said that even though they weren't going to bring anything new to Multiplayer they went on about how the revolutionary engine would be good enough. Then when Quake 4 came out they went on how it wasn't all that great and that the Multiplayer was more of the same.

What irks me the most about PC Gamer is how they go on and on about how PC Gaming is better than Console Gaming, and they constantly talk down on Console gamers. I'm a PC gamer and I stick exclusively to the PC, but I also know better than to bash Console Gamers for sticking with the Consoles. Console gamers stick with the XBox 360, PS3, and the Wii, and that's fine with me. Hell, I even interact with Console gamers online.

Game looks like an amusing romp. Put it on my list of PC games to get eventually.
