Sins of a Solar Empire

Thanks for the info, my hype for this title is increasing, I'm a huge 4x space fan, been playing it since late 90s, my fav series being Space Empires for their depth, but this sounds like it might almost rival them on my fav strategy games list.

Heck, aslong as I can have three-way battles with a few hundred carriers and a couple of tens of thousands of fighters, I'm happy!
I should point out that the guy who got 20,000 ships on his screen was getting 3fps on a Q6600/7900GT system :p However, when any given ship/building becomes too small on your screen, it fades from a 3D model to a 2D sprite, which puts a lot less strain on your system and makes it easier to select the ship. The 3fps was when the guy was zoomed in far enough to render all his ships in 3D. But oddly enough, once he turned off the UI he got 30+fps.

Raz: It's definitely pretty epic. In the smaller 1v1 games, there is a definite sense of "one mistake will lose me the game", but that's only because you're playing against one other person on a handful of planets. Once you move up to 2v2, and more than a dozen planets, all the way up to 5v5 with five stars and fifty planets, even including a space-pirate homeworld and pirate presence on a number of planets... :D

I want to play this game.

Who wants to loan me money to pre-order? :bounce:

I'm like the opposite, I've never really gotten into 4x, hell, I just had to look it up just so I had a good understanding of what you guys were talking about.

Recommend me some 4x games? Hah.. they don't have to space only too. :) I'm thinking of starting playing GalCiv2, the latest Civilisation and.. I don't know.

destrukt, you can get Space Empires IV Deluxe and Space Empires V off Steam very cheap, they are very complex 4x games, HOWEVER, they do something others don't, they have AI Ministers that you can toggle on for every single tiny detail, so you can control EXACTLY how much you want to manage in the game, maybe you just want to manage the fleet and not the planets? Just turn on planetary ministers.

If you do get Space Empires IV Deluxe and V off steam, I recommend you look up the mods
Fyron's Quadrant Mod
TDM-Modpack
and finally BalanceMod!

They improve AI alot and make the game more fun and challenging to play.

Why get both IV and V? Why not just the latest one?

There are some fundamental differences in them, I consider IV superor because it's IMO more complex and with better AI.

I agree PaoloM, only thing I like more in V is the Alliance System.

Well, I'll take a look at them both and will probably buy at least one. :)
