Topic #2: Character design

The purpose of this thread is for members to display any character designs or concepts they have drawn here, for everyone to see. If you have a piece of work you wish to present, or simply want to comment on another member’s work- please stick to these simple rules.

Rules

The work you display must be of a certain quality. This means no 30 second doodles or amusing stick men- your work must be at least a simple drawing. Although please note that despite the fact that artwork is referred to as “sketches”, you may post complex masterpieces if you wish.

All of the sketches must be your own work! If you wish to show some artwork that has inspired you or may help others, you may do so- but only if you clearly state that it is not your work.

--------------------------

Topic related rules:

The character you post must be humanoid, and interesting! We are looking for dynamic indaviduals with definitive characteristics, not "stick man joe" with his pet "fluffy". Apart from that you van draw whatever character you want.
(note: Humanoid means they look relatively like a person, or have been personified to make them display characteristics shown by humans. )

Example
This is another piece of joint artwork by me and Sulkdodds, it's of Durotar Scott, an indiana jones type adventurer who searches for fame and adventure, despite the mild handicap that he is in fact dead.
Sulkdodds pencilled it, and I added detail / inked.

Thanks :D

It's actually a World of Warcraft character we designed, but I didn't say that as it would just get confusing. The basis for the character was my undead rogue:

We're hoping to make a machinima on this subject after our exams, once I've got hold of an Indiana Jones hat...

And yes, that's a crowbar edited into his hand... It's for my profile on our new Order of the Crowbar site.

very exciting, another sketch thread, and suicide, what lvl is your rogue? off topic :p

This picture wasn't worth making a new thread for - but it's a face so I though I'll stick it in here. In a moment of boredom I realised there was a blank sheet of paper and a pencil in front of me - so here's a random face I just drew out of nowhere. In fact, I draw faces everywhere really - I've improved loads at them but they're still really dodgy for some reason. Maybe it's the eyes. Excuse the messiness, I'm really clumbsy when I sketch quickly :p Maybe 15-20 minutes of work :)

Didn't really finish it, I'm quite happy with the shape though.

if my scanner would work, i could show you!
that guy loooks more like Dennis Quade

love the one of the guy with the mohican

Good stuff, short recoil :) That dude with the mohican's ear is too big tho.. either that, or his eyes/nose is too small.. very good though :E

Short Recoil, the 2 soldier picks are amazing, especially the one carrying the rifle. Not a fan of the smoking guy with the pistol though, good, but the soldier ones definately look a lot better.

Figures I could use this for this thread as well :p

Anime Alyx :D

Oh, and this thingy I drawn for a mod also :

Mucked around in photoshop for about 20 minutes trying to do this. Just can't seem to get the hair right though

The hobo with the rifle really is great. Ever considered using charcoal?

Wow! How long has this thread been here! Great work guys

Much better than me can do :(

Wait, so is this original character design or sketching figures? I had the impression you were supposed to design a humanoid creature, but poeple are posting sketches.

?

I'll just design something new.

<3

Sketches are A-OK

Saw the thread and decided to draw this.

He doesn't have a name, other than apple-dude which just seemed like a good name.

That one was for a Conceptart.org daily sketch feature, I wrote a small thing for it too:
The CyBot initiative was a huge success on the battlefield for the United States in 2087. As a result, all dropships were now also loaded with automatic stations in which a dead soldier would through patented unknown techniques have his flesh and muscle revived, missing bodyparts replaced by artificial limbs and several technical additions depending on the function of the individual CyBot. The spine was replaced by a completely artificial spine containing the network required to mantain a CyBot, to which all addons and organs like the eyes were linked and then controlled by the AI unit.

The key to the CyBot's success was the pure tough-lived nature of it. Thanks to the robotic parts of the system, a single unit could take a huge amount of bullet impacts aswell as smaller explosives, and still continue its mission.
Additionally, due to the revived flesh parts operating weapons and movement, the CyBot could keep firing and walking even during cases such as the AI system being damaged by EMP explosives or other electromagnetical weapons like the New Soviets range of E-30 firearms.

As the World War 4 ended recently in 2103, all CyBot activities were shut down and the initiative was officially cancelled. It is understandably no longer required, as several nations, including the United States, plan to use only mechanized and completely artifical warfare units in possible future wars.
Contained below is an archive photo of an individual CyBot unit. The most remarkable things to take notice of is the very little amount of human tissue left on the unit, aswell as the small robotic arm below the MP60 Submachinegun operating the reload sequence by rotating, grabbing a magazine located on the top of the gun and finally placing it in the magazine chamber.

I love the designs harij! If there's anything better than a hard boiled marine, it's a crazy, phycopathic cyborg comprised of an array of horrific body parts and oversised mechanical contraptions that are designed to wrench the life out of any moving creature. Either that or bunny rabbits. yess... bunny rabbits.

I prefer the second to last one, because the bleak, distorted effect created by the lack of colour gives me the impression that this battle-worn robot has fought and ripped its way through many an enemy, but has reached the final, tiring stretch of it's rampage, and as it is slowly surrounded by waves of relentless enemies- it makes its final stand: obsessed with taking out as many of those f**kers as possible.

*edit* Just read your post- man that description sounds so cool!
