...is absolutely, positively, fantastic. I saw it yesterday, and it is a must see for anyone who reveres the names Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon, or who is a fan of Indiana Jones. It's an instant classic.
IGN's excellent review: http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/548/548662p1.html

In short: If you love movies, enjoy adventure, and cherish beauty – see Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.

I am going to have to disagree with you. I repect your opinion but I will have to let you know my opinion. I don't know if it was the weed or what but although it is very innovative I think that character development and the plot were horrible.

It always seemed that you knew the actors were acting with a blue (or green) screen the entire movie. Especially the Polly character. She just came off as very annoying to me. Almost every scene she would be saying incrediably obvious things relating to the situation. i.e. During the kidnapping of Nash? And all the robots with the string arms were walking around Polly said, "There everywhere!" Duh. It was those small annoyances that kept me from enjoying the movie.
Don't get me wrong, the visuals were some of the best I've seen but the plot ruined it for me.
Isn't this movie supposed to take place in the future? Because why is the technology advanced, i.e., the heat gun...and the setting seems to take place after World War 1? I was puzzled.
Maybe it was because I was stoned or something but I would not reccommend seeing this movie.
(2 of my sober friends walked out of the movie to go play some arcade games)
Maybe it just depends upon your tastes but I would recommend for all of you to wait until it came out on DVD

It had a unique feel to it... I think you'll either love it or hate it.

Isn't this movie rated PG?
PG movies tend to be realy cruddy.
(With some obvious exceptions)
And isnt Angelina Jolie in it?
With a really crappy accent?
I dont think ill end up seeing it...

I have to say that you do seem to have a an almost total lack of knowledge of the source material, so I can see why maybe it could be confusing seeing it without that. Its a movie version of all the old serial comics from the early part of last century. Anyone else see it who has any familiarity with this stuff?
It's PG because its not violent. Its absolutely fantastic and whimsical, and not liking a movie for a rating is stupid and childish (Star Wars anyone?).
And lastly, Angelina Jolie actually does a surprisingly good job. :D

its only good if you realize its suposed to look like a cheap 50's make movie. then just sit back and laugh at it.

i also noticed alot of nazi like things in the movie

I just saw it this afternoon and I must say that although it wasnt what I expected, it was very well done.

The thing about it is that its such a different take on story telling that its difficult for audience members to get a handle on it. This is what happned with Pulp Fiction. Many people disliked it at first becaue it jumps around so much. Now that people know what to expect when a movie does that they have no problem with disjointed story telling. Eg. Kill Bill.

Sky Captain was absolutly, positivly, totally linear in its story telling. Characters didnt appear until they absolutly had to, and it wasted no time on minor characters whatsoever; they were there for plot purposes only. As someone already pointed out, this is probably due to it being a take on serial Sci-Fi comics.

It started out a bit slow but the second half was much better since the style and main characers were establsihed and it didnt waste much time on additional minor characters.

Some reviewers have said that the dialouge was wooden. I disagree. To me it seems as if the actors consistantly delivered thier lines in a deliberate dead-pan fasion, reminicent of older B&W sci fi movies.

Plenty of references to other sci-fi.

It was well worth it to pay to see it in the theater and I would be willing to bet that Sky Captain will be better the second time around.

I liked it alot. I hope everyone realizes that it is suppose to look like an old sci-fi movie. They did the graphics that way on purpose.

I liked it a lot. Although i only started liking it when sky captain lands in his base place. The beggining was too dark and made me feel a bit sick, but i ended up liking it.

And really you should put the fact in mind that EVERYTHING except the characters is done in the computer, so it's all done with blue/green screens. I found that amazing.

I want to see this film, but I don't know when its out...It could already be released :O

You have beautiful poetry.

I saw it yesterday and thought it was really good. I love the visual style and, though the dialogue was rather stiff, it made me nostalgic for old sci-fi movies I used to love as a little kid. I thuroughly enjoyed this movie and recommend that everyone see it.

I still really want to see this but none of my friends will go with me. They say it looks stupid. Then I'm like: "But there's giants robots.....fighting WW2 planes.....underwater....."

i wanted to see it, i love that streamlined 1930's look.

This is an awesome movie, and I had a grin plastered on my face the entire time.

Roeper is an idiot, and not half the critic Siskel was.

Zeppelins are cool!!!
