SLAMs and dumb teamates

having played a ludicrous amount of TDM dm_runoff i have learned something.

Most players, namely teammates are downright dumb as all hell when it comes to dealing with slams.

While i can understand slams going off when people try to duck underneath thanks to the FOV being lower than the player model's head hitbox, but when people can't seem to do a simple hop over a easily seen slam, 20x in a row, it drives you nuts. You try and try to set up a good defense against the other team entering the control room, only to have some players unable to master the simple art of crouch jumping trip off a series of mines and give the enemy team a clear way to attack.

thoughts?

And that's why I don't play TDM. (In reference to the original poster)

i personally can't stand the chaos of dm, i like seeing some sort of concerted effort to ruin the efforts of the other team. and dm_runoff is one of the most teamplay oriented maps i've played.

there's just something about those few seconds of silence after the doors finally slam shut, then laughing at the other team using my mic. that makes that map so much fun.

it just frustrates me to no end when your teammates see you put down a slam, then horribly fail at clearing it when you happen to be nearby, crippling or killing you.

firing your own or anothers slam with the manipulator into a bunch of people and timing the detonation is always fun,, if you get it right. But yeh your right.. maybe they dont know what it is... and there lyk... oo purdy, and its got a red flashy thingy on it 2.. oooooooo... 'POP'

The problem is that they do it for the 2nd, then 3rd, then 4th, and up to the millionth time.

TDM on publics is full of idiots. (mostly) People crying cheater, shooting team mates for like 5 minutes until they realize whats going on, camping in stupid places etc etc.

Get in a clan, get on teamspeak, and get fragging. So much more fun.

I totally agree with you. I cannot stand some people in public servers. Like just yesterday, three guys thinking I use "h4x" because I walk funny and never die :|
One guy even said something like, "I play deathmatch a lot, and I know how many bullets it takes to take a person die" - He was unaware of the sprint key :O
If they are on my team and they are giving me shit, I like to squish them with an orb.

Yeah man. I like to single out the people giving me shit and batter them until they leave the server. If they are civil, I explain how I do what I do, take them to a private server and show them some stuff. If they call me names I abuse them.

Dodging their bullets until they are down to the crowbar, then a double shotty to the face is allways a favourite of mine.

The only thing worse than someone who places a slam in the middle of a well lit large hall way is the person who falls for it.

It seems nobody who plays know what the laser is. They're so god damned easy to avoid as trip-mines.

I don't know why I still go through the trouble attaching them to objects and covering them up by piling physprops.

I should play on friendly fire servers. That way if they trigger the mine they die, not just me...

:)

Same with me... clan games > public.

In TDM, I place them as visibly and as blatantly as possible.
It's the ONLY way to prevent your own team from walking right through five of them in a row. Or, in FF servers, getting five suicides.

And even that only works maybe 60% of the time. :sniper:

I have honestly had five 'team-mates' dash into a hallway in a stright line and die one-by-one on slam after slam after slam. With none of them slowing down to think that maybe the slams can hurt you. It's like Lemmings 3D out there.

I'm tempted to change my name to "I PUT SLAMS IN THE STAIRWELL. DUCK UNDER THE SLAMS." whenever I play Overwatch, because I honestly have to type that message maybe 20 times a game before it sinks in.
And by then, the map is done.

Then, once they blow up all the slams, they (of course), go about filling the doorways with as much random physics objects as possible instead. Great work; now no-one can get up, and you've hindered the mapflow for our team and cut down on our avenues of attack.

Same thing as when I'm combine in Runoff, and my 'team' starts clogging the rebel's door or (ugh) using the door-jamming exploit.
And the worst part is that when they use the physics objects to block the door, the block the END of the hallway, so when the missiles go off the rebs get thier own protected bunker and a sniping vantage for the idiots inside.

Now, there are a few people who actually duck under the mines repeatedly and consistently to the point that it musn't have been a mistake or fluke.
It's like winning the lotto when that happens.
This is probably the biggest reason why I would even consider joining a clan.

Joining a clan takes the game to the next level. It is actually challenging, rather than getting 120:10 ratios.

Trying to break even is hard enough.

i've never been interested in joining clans because it means having to schedule crap and playing competitavly, i'm mainly interested in just playing around at whatever hour suits me with strangers who hopefully are smart. Doesn't happen often, but thats good enough for me.

Normally i'm not very impressed by most clanners, they go down just as easily as most pubbers. However there is one noticable exception. (SW) or ($W) or however they right it. Euuugh. Those guys are freaking crazy. Unless your name is mister FATALITY himself, patron saint of FPS games, or nearly as good, these people will freaking kick your ass threeways till next tuesday. There's also some guy named Azmodiar out there who just about as good.

Heh, I'm in a clan of some sorts, but the other members are quite inactive (they're mapping, I think :D) so that leaves me playing on their server with noobs. It's great while it's not tdm.... Some teammates are so stupid... Once 4 of them were going up the stairs in overwatch and my slam killed 3 of them while the remaining 1 killed himself with a barrel.:(
By the way, Hi WySi :)

I think they should allow red beams for Rebel planted and blue beams for combine planted SLAMs. Hello from me also, Wysiwig.

yes, those SW guys are fun to play against. I wish more of them played in the servers I played in.

Right now im in the VDuS clan.. fun stuff.

I wish that slams only hurt enemies, that way it'll prevent morons from constantly detonating them and dropping your score.

Have a red laser for enemy slams and green for friendly.

An odd thing i noticed on runoff (likely to have been mentioned before) is that if you plant a laser mine on one of the doors as it is opening, you see the line move with the door for a short while instead of detonating straight away. I could imagine this 'sploit could be used on custom maps with moving platforms (or garry's mod) to make an explosive gullotine.

ahhh i HATE when my team runs into my slams!! that's why i just use the detonating feature mostly now. i dont think they should change the colors of the lasers because then one might be more noticable then the other. they just need to make it not able to blow up when friends run into it.
