Slashdot's take on Spike TV's show

I didn’t even watch the damn thing because I remembered how shitty the last one was.
 
Game awards on T.V. are bullshit. They should be left to the internet. That way, more people who give a damn will participate.
 
glad my cable tv was broken while that aired.. I agree with this article and I didn't even see them.. please best game fueld by dew :( makes me want to cry!
 
I'm glad i couldn;t watch it, sounds like utter shite, we seriously need something to raise the cred of gamers in the public eye, something that is mighty in its awesomeness
 
The main problem with the show last night was that they were targetting only one key demographic: the "black" culture. Rap, women in revealing outfits (there was even a gangster brawl at the beginning of the awards), I mean, come on!! When you target only ONE demographic, you are purposefully alienating everyone else. And why would any network want to discourage viewers?? It doesn't make sense. But this is why TV is dying, and other hobbies (like video games) are on the rise; the networks don't know what they're doing anymore.

I'd say the popularity of women in revealing outfits isn't exclusive to black culture (whatever that means).

Women in revealing outfits are pretty prevelant in all of modern western culture.

That was their only hook to try and keep people watching. Just like last year's, if I remember correctly, featured a wrestling match. :|

Last night was a show for the rap industry, not video games. It felt like something you'd see on MTV. I just didn't work/appeal to me; and unless you enjoy rap I doubt you enjoyd the show.

I don't know what point I'm trying to make (other than I disliked the show ). Being hosted by Snoop Dogg, I should have seen this coming.
 
I think we should start a TV Hl2.net forum awards, we can have lots of flashy lights, naked women men would only dream of sleeping with and rap stars.

The things I hated most about the spike videogame awards.
-It wasnt targeted to gamers
-It was about big tits
-It was about rap
-It was about advertising
-Overhyped
-Way to flashy
-Music
-and basically everything else.

Basically I agree with most everything in the slashdot article.

I would really like to see the videogame awards done correctly some time in the next 5 years. My version of correctly is a more formal awards ceremony more like the academy awards (Although I dont know if I we will see anyone in the gaming industry ever dress up in a tuxedo. I guess a cacky pants and a collared shirt would be ok). It doesnt have to be exspensive, and it doesnt have to attract millions of viewers but its got to apeal to the hardcore gamer. Not some punk who thinks he knows games and all he plays are Tony hawks and GTA. I dont know how the voting process would work but im sure something could be figured out. The awards ceremony would have to be more artistic also not just flashy lights. And jokes that a gamer would understand. There could be categories like
Best game of the year
Best Game design
Best ingame music
Best game based on a Movie
Best Book bases on a game
Best graphics
Most innovative gameplay
Best RTS
Best RPG
Best MMORPG
Best adventure game
Best sports game
Best FPS
Best Simulation game
Best Racing game
Best soundtrack
Best game engine
Best Artificial inteeligence
Best animation
Best Multiplayer game
Best PS2 Game
Best Gamecube Game
Best Xbox game
Best Computer game
Best DS game
Best PSP game
Best game studio
Best Commercial for a game
Best Mod
Most promising game for next year

Now that is alot of awards but im sure that could be fit to under 3 hours. Oh and notice thre is not advertisments in the awards. The mc's wouldnt use words like the graphics were wicked sick, unless they were describing unreal torunament and using as a joke or something. :dozey:

Oh and because game developers are incredibly busy people the awards cermony would have to take place during GDC or behind closed doors at E3

Oh and for every award the winner would get a lump of money (say $1000) that they would get to donate to the charity of their choice.

I agree with you. For **** sake, they had Snoop Dog.
If they're going to have video game awards, they should use unbiased robots-let's face it, only robots can be unbiased.
And by "use robots", I mean have robots host the show so it the show won't have a 'gangster' theme.
