while whatching the e3 video I notced that things get kindof studdery while near those sentry guns as he herds more spiders into them and chucks a pharomone into the dangerous hallway then again it could be the way the video was captured.......... certainly wasent slow-down caused by my machine

It was already said that it's caused by the effects of the shaky cam.

I myself can't believe it was running on a Radeon 9800 pro, unless some DX9 features are still being implemented. Every single effect I saw can be done on a Geforce 4... the shadows on the walls were straight-edged, not soft-rendered. At the end, when the strider walks infront of a building just before it sticks it's foot into a guys body, you can see a well placed light casts a dynamic shadow onto that building. That shadow was not soft-rendered.

The part with barney has soft shadows, but nothing drastic like I thought it would be. As objects are farther away, they should cast soft shadows, and when they're closer to a surface, harder ones. I haven't seen a clean transition yet in HL2, but lighting isn't what impresses be about the Source anyway.

oooh I see... yes im a bit worried that hardware is behind the games industry in pc gameing :dork:

No, it was actually created during the quicktime conversion, it happens to many quicktime files.

Abom|nation is right, i've seen the same video from IGN and it doesn't slow down at that part.
Vissione don't forget that that was the build from last year.
They hopefully, and most likely have made improvements on shadowing and other things.

A GF4 wont be able to do the refrective bump mapping of the water to the extent that a DX9 based card can. It will still look almost as impressive though... /strokes gf4 ti 4600 sitting in his box...
