What drawing portfolio is complete without a slutty anime girl? :p
This is my second or so attempt at drawing anime, and my second attempt at properly coloring in photoshop. Not bad for a beginner, right?

I think it looks good, especially for a second attempt

I completely suck at anime btw :E

lol, thast cool :D

i think the face needs to be shorter though :)

Not bad for a second attempt. Here's my crits, try not to take them the wrong way, I'm only trying to help you improve.

She looks like she's about to fall over. People have a center of gravity located around the navel. At least 1 foot should be directly under the center of gravity if you want it to look like they could be standing in that position.

Your lighting is not correct. Your value range for the shadows and speculars is too small. In reality, shadows and speculars have many many values between the lightest and darkest places.

So...

1. Study anatomy. When I was starting out, most every serious artist ecommended this book to me. Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist (Galaxy Books)
by Stephen Rogers, Peck

It's definately an awsome anatomy book. It shows you proportioning and ways to draw the anatomy. Something normal anatomy books don't do. Yes, I know anime doesn't have traditional proportions, but you should know how to draw a realistic person, and then start drawing stylized people.

2. Use reference. You don't have a big enough "library" in your imagination to draw people without reference. It takes time to build that library and drawing from reference is the way to do it. Find a picture (preferably more than one) that looks as similar to what you want to draw as possible (honestly, drawing real stuff is better than pictures). Make sure it has the lighting you want too. Most artists don't draw entirely from imagination. It takes years and years to be able to draw people in dynamic poses from just imagination. Using reference is not cheating. Tracing is cheating.

Wow you criticism is quite helpful... It's not criticism, it's advice. Thanks buddy :)

For an anime picture her head needs to be like 5X bigger, along with her eyes (leave the nose and mouth as they are). Also, her hair should probably be green and should defy gravity. And, of course no anime picture is complete without either a giant robot or inappropriate tentacles.

Okay, so I joke. Do not do any of those things! :p
Actually, put a robot in. The addition of a robot NEVER detracts from anything.

Anime humans bug me, unless they're drawn in a more realistic style.
But i'll put my hatred aside and help my enemy by telling you that Cy up there has good advice. Anime characters are just normal human anatomy distorted for subtle (or not-so subtle) emphasis.

So, the best starting point would be to start drawing regular humans and then use that knowledge to apply that knowledge backwards, reverse-engineering it into the bizarre cartoon. :)
