This fun multi-player mod can now be downloaded via Steam! If you've never played Smashball, now is the time to give it a try. This mod combines not only competitive team play, trying to score with a ball in the opposing team's goal, but also combat between teams in a struggle for victory.
Smashball is a fast-paced, ultra violent first-person sports shooter. Two teams use super-human maneuvers, a real-physics grappling hook and high-powered weaponry to try to get a single ball into their opponent's goal. On the league web site, players can see match stats, create teams and participate in our cash tournaments!

[br]Smashball can be downloaded here, you require only Half-life 2 to play. Smashball website.

I wouldn't be able to play this I'd be too distracted by the god awful hud.

I'd give it whirl someday. TF2 can be a drag sometimes, especially when on the losing team 3-5 rounds in a row. do a lot of people play this??

That is one clunky HUD. Could it be any uglier?

How about some constructive criticism or trying the mod before you form your opinion?

do a lot of people play this??

Every single server (about 10) has been full since yesterday's release.

It really is very popular and they have built up an impressive fanbase even before the Steam release.

Lots of satisfaction in working together (passing especially) to score :D

I downloaded it and it froze on me. I will try again later after emails but I had to reboot.

THE HUD IS HUGE AND BLOCKY.

That help?

You're talking about the scoreboard at the top? It's really too big for you? Do you also have problems with every other Source based game that has a similarly shaped HUD at the bottom for health and ammo?

cool, I'll check it out tonight when I burn out on mapping :)

now for these mods do I have to go to the steam store or do they automatically show up in my games list?

They used to show up in your games list, but someone complained about it, and Valve removed that feature. You have to find them in the steam store.

It's big and clunky. Stop kidding yourself bucko.

There is absolutely NO colour scheme current within the hud. There is no innervation with numbers and layout, it's all in blocked sections. And yes the usage of opaque background colours helps the illusion of it being huge.

The score is too small and a team can easily be interpreted by colour and not name. Change the hud, give it a better feel other than having it look like someone pulled out word and excel.

OK well since we've established the HUD isn't to everyone's taste, how about we look past that for a second and talk about the gameplay, models, textures and maps?

I've found the pace to be unrelenting, but all models ingame are top notch and well polished. I'm struggling to become as effective with the hook as some of the pro's are, and it's making me feel really rubbish compared!

I think a good strategy would be some beginner servers, or lower ranking servers for people to learn the game and build a community. The higher end players make light work of the guys late to the party.

The HUD is awfull.

It's just not aesthetically pleasing at all. Sure, it might be functional, I'm not disagreeing with that. But I am vain and cannot accept looking upon such a catastrophe. Sorry, looks matter a lot to me.

The mod looks interesting otherwise though. I'll check it out when a new HUD appears, or someone with aesthetic sense redesigns it.
