Ok, I somehow got some spy-ware or adware on my compy, and it wont freaken go away. It makes pop-ups, and always uses the browser I am using for another popup. So while I am typing this I have to keep copying it, because I dont want to loose the post halfway through when this browser becomes an ad. I ran norton, and scanned for viruses (which it found one, and deleted it). Then I ran Spybot Search and Destroy, it found some stuff and deleted it. Then I ran ad-aware, and that found some stuff, and deleted it. And I keep running those two and each time they find like 2 more things. But the problem never goes away no matter whats deleted. And why does it keep finding more stuff each time, even though I deleted everything before?

Please help, its really f-ing annoying.

Spybot: S&D does what it's supposed to do and does it well, even catching what other applications don't.

I'd say an attached screenshot of the specified spyware and pop-ups would help.

There that just happened when I was about to post. The search window was the browser I was using for hl2.net, then the popup took it over, and created another one.

But thats not the only popups, it makes random ones. Sometimes it even sends me to ebay with a wierd search. Like once it sent me to ebay for some wood palletes :rolling: And the spyware that shows up is always a different name.

Edit, oh and I do use Ad-aware SE.

Edit2: Heres another shot, just to show how random this is.

Make sure you've applied the most recent versions to Ad-Aware SE and Spybot: S&D. Also, consider downloading Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta. Run a full scan of your system then reboot. It's all well to have many applications for exterminating pesky spyware and adware. Check out CCleaner as well.

And download Adblock, a handy and useful extension for Firefox.

Ignorance...

SpyBot and AdAware should be used in tandum with eachother. Because both apps will catch things the other dose not.
Peroid.

Thats exactly what I've done in the past...and it's worked perfectly for months.
But now I'm seeing some smartass spyware that won't go away also...hmm..
Mine's not nearly as bad though.

For Krynn72 I'd suggest -aquiring- a program called Registry Mechanic (as well as microsoft spyware or whatever else you can find)... I doubt it would fix the problem but it's still a good program to have imo.

My recommendation: format/re-install Windows.

I'm kidding though, but thats what I usually do in the extremely unlikely event that I do get spyware (happened 2 times, but long long ago). I just don't bother, I can't live with myself knowing spyware was there, so I format.

I run microsoft antispyware all the time which provides good protection and I also scan for spyware with the microsoft app, spybot search&destroy and adaware. All 3 are free and will do the job just right. Also I would recommend scanning for spyware & adaware while running windows in safemode and once you have cleared it all out, reboot into normal windows and run it again. that should hopefully eliminate all occurances, unless its embedded in teh registry, which might mean that you have to get some sort of registry scanning software to get rid of it. Hope this helps

My suggestion: Don't use Internet Explorer.
lol

Ever since I started using FireFox like a year ago I havent got 1 iota of spy/adware. And I used to get tons when using IE.

Ok I got all the stuff updated, and got Microsoft Antispyware and updated that too. Still no dice. Im going to buy some upgrades for my comp which will require me to reformat, but that wont be for at least another month. What does that registry mechanic program do? Adaware sometimes finds things in registry.

ok, restart ur PC and log into safe mode with no networkin no internet. Then run spybot or anyother adware spyware remover. Whilst its in safe mode u adware/spyware progs shud detect any malicious code better than in normal mode. Once its being detected remove/quarantine the keys/files & reboot ur PC into normal mode.

I tried it like you said. It didnt work unfortunately.

get "hijackthis" and post the log of all the things running, you *may* be able to delete it manually.

Ok its gotten worse. I was running Avast! to check for viruses and adware and whatever, and I left it on while I went out for dinner. When I got back, I opened up a browser and noticed a wierd thing happened. I no longer see the tops of websites. Like, at hl2.net, I cannot see their logo. And at google.com I cannot see the google logo (see attached pics). So um.... wtf? Gah, I dont wanna have to reformat, then reformat again in like three weeks from now, but this stuff is getting wierd, and even more annoying.

EDIT: Ok, nevermind. Adblock was doing that. Still the popups are pissing me off. Nothing is getting rid of them.

Try XoftSpy and PC Spyware Doctor in safe mode, and perhaps seek out CWshredder.

If that doesn't work, get HiJack This and post the log up here :)

i must say i agree totally with ^^^ since ive had firefox ive had no problems what so ever with that crap

I find ctrl-alt-del and googling the names of suspicious programmes running is quite useful.

if you can have it stay long enough. also try running trend micro's housecall

free web virus scan

Schedule a boot-time scan with avast, so it can scan your system before anything gets loaded.

It looks like your images have been disabled in your options somehow. Tools > Options > Web Features > [] Load Images, see if the box is checked.
