I wonder if HL2 will allow for a screenshot format like JPG? (Without quality loss of course.)

It would be a lot more efficient for obsessive screenshotters like me. :bounce:

there are a lot of good programs that can do mass reformatting into jpeg...I use thumbsplus from www.cerious.com it's a little expensive, but there are "other" ways of getting it...

there's a few applications that can actually automatically convert a HL screenshot to jpg when it's created. I can't remember what it's called and it was many years ago so it might be hard to find now.

Gabe said they'd keep them as .bmp or .tga I think.

im one of those people who takes dozens of screens then forgets about them, JPgs would be nice.

The big question is, will source allow the nice "record demo" system?

ont: ps will do the work.

Yeah, source has a record demo feature, I've heard that you can even change the camera angle, zoom etc. Though I may have been reading about a different feature.

Gabe said you'll be able to record directly to AVI which is good for movies makers.

no, i sent him an email about demo features and asked if it would save to avi. all he said was "there will be an in-game demo editor"

there might have been another email about those features like zoom and rotate, but i forget. im pretty sure i never read anything about saving to avi.

i remember reading about recording to avi. thu i remember that a while before it, Gabe said it will record to bmp and didn't mention anything about avi. so either the avi feature was added later or the avi is fake rumors (i dont remember where i read it .. so bleh) or i'm an idiot.

nice! bit like quake3 then i spose, was really easy to make avi's in that - loadsa fun :)

yah, im such a screenshot whore, and i dont remember what the program that converts them is either, was a long time ago

saving as a .bmp is actually excellent for two reasons-

1. It's faster, no need to compress.
2. It's a pure shot, no compression artifacts or nothing.

If you want jpgs, get the automatic converter, but leave us owners of photoshop and psp to our obsessive IQ ways please. :Q

Siekeden, JPEG > BMP all over the net. No one wants to download a 2MB file that can be viewed with 100-200KB. :p

Don't use JPG for shots, use PNG instead - no artifacts and it compresses very well. The ideal format for image archiving.
