So do you guys think Lost Coast is close or not?

I really doubt its close to release, my guess end of July or first week of August but i really hope im wrong. Last thing they said is close to release but close can be 1 week, 1 month its hard to say when valve means "close" actually.

I'd call end of July/start of August "close."

I'm just thinking more and more we won't be seeing it until fall.

~~~~~NEWS FLASH~~~~~
The Source Code for Valves new level for the great shooter, "Half-Life 2" has been leaked and sources say, it might have been those dirty Commies.
"I was just sitting at my desk, and all of a sudden Stalin was on my screen singing "I love kitties, yes yes yes!" over and over, and I just couldn't look away. Then I went to play "The Lost Coast" again, seeing as how it's been done for monthes now, and it's just so fun to play, and it was missing! -Gabe Newell
It will be released all of a sudden in 3 months probably. This is how Valve work. It's "next month", then "next couple of months" then "summer", then everybody forgets about it, and then it's released one day.
Yeah if they not make it until July ends then something is wrong.. and all this waiting for a what max 30min techdemo ?
or its more like hl3 techdemo since most likeley the gfx in lost coast will be in hl3
Nah, HL3 isn't going to be here until at least 2008. It'll look craploads better than lost coast by then.
yeap ^^
hl3 will prolly have HDR in it, but it will be more advanced, th graphics will be better. hl3 graphics > hl2 graphics. you know its true
wtf are u talking about the lost coast gfx are very advanced
Im sick of waiting- my anticipation for it has completely disappeared. Glad i got BF2 to help me forget :=)
meh.
this thread reminds me of times when people thought HL2 was vapourware.. remember that? :|
just be patient...its gonna come, just not as soon as most of u would like it to.
Well hopefully by the time of release i would have got my new mobo and cpu so my specs will be
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
768GB Ram (upgrading to 1gb)
AGP X700 256mb
Will i be able to run lost coast ok with the new HDR ???
X700 that is Ati right ? Then sorry no ati card today can run with HDR.
Oh come on man, yes they can.
Any X800 XT PE can run HDR just freakin' fine.
Who cares about Lost Coast? I want DoD:S, TF2, and Aftermath (not necessarily in that order)!
Well, I want those too, but the thing is this:
Lost Coast is theoretically "close," while all those are a ways off. Especially in the case of TF2.
will be released shortly after ATi presented graphic cards powered by R520
Not true.
ATI cards can do low precision HDR, and there's a low quality HDR setting on Lost Coast for just this. Nvidia's 6800 series supports floating point blending, which allows for high quality HDR. This is because it uses a floating point format to store the HDR data, which allows for a far greater range of colour information to be stored.
The difference between high and low quality is just one of precision. ATI's method sometimes results in banding, for instance.
I hope that The Lost Coast comes out in September.
There are two quality settings for HDR in the Source engine!
High- ONLY CARDS SUPPORTING SHADER MODEL 3.0 CAN USE THIS MODE! At present only the Nvidia 6xxx series support Shader Model 3.0
Low- All other DX9 cards (Radeon 9100 and up (9000 is a souped up 8500, doesn't support SM2.0), all Radeon Xxxx series, Geforce FX 5xxx series)
HDR is not required to run Lost Coast, as it can be turned off. However the general system requirements for Lost Coast are greater than for Half-Life 2.
Hmm, either way i ain't too bothered about HDR just really want to play the lost coast, however i will try it with low HDR just to see how it runs and how it looks etc.
Well, yeah, but if the X800 ATI cards could support floating point blending, Valve would probably have written an SM2.0 path for them. SM3.0 is not a requirement for HDR.
Where did you get that info?
valve is just a bunch of liars
I mean they keep saying for months that they're going to release a level that will be available for the owners of a high end graphics card ... and it turns out that they're just waiting for the R520 to come out ... ba$tards!!! It will only run on the R520!
dude the Radeon 9100 is just a 8500, so it's DX8.1
and the 9000 is not a pumped up 8500, it's just a slower chip
so please stop telling bullcrap around here :upstare:
Ok so i mixed up the names but im right on the high and low parts just trying to tell cause some people still thinks their X800 will run Loast coast at high HDR which is not possible.
It all sounds confusing to me tbh, why are valve creating or have created HDR and going to incorporate it into some of their games if most people will need a top of the run system to use it, also im a bit confused as to how it will work, i mean you may hide in a dark corner with it on but someone with it off will see you easily stand there pull a moony and blast you in the F****** face :O
This has all been discussed before, so before someone flames your ass, ill explain it nice and polite like.
Valve has made the Lost Coast to showcase their HDR technology and show what directions the source engine can be taken. It's a free donwload, and NOT INTENDED for everyone to play. For the people that can play it in all its intended glory, they will need a high end system. From what ive heard so far, Valve is not interested in providing an extra level of HL2 that everyone can play- they want to show where they're going. Think of it as a concept car at the Detroit Motor Show.
They are also incorporating HDR into source to cover themselves and keep the Source engine up to date in terms of visuals. It will hopefully show itself to be an engine that dates very well.
The lost coast most likely is the rumored ATI levels, and ATI is probably paying valve to release them at the same time ATI releases their new video card.
