It will not lag because you do not need to actually download anything. Only upload. Plus the amount of upload bandwidth it would take would be so small you wouldnt even notice on 56k. Plus if you dont want it to at all you can probably turn it off or at least play in offline mode.

think opt-in, cached data. So when you connect to play online with steam then it will send the data if you allow it to. As a result you'll get a better game while playing. yay

Do people even understand what "lag" is? You can't lag in a single player game. Lag comes from problems with prediction: and there's no real prediction in SP games. The worst that could happen is that this feature slows you system down and you get a drop in frame rate: but that's not the same thing as lag, and it's very very doubtful that a small amount of network traffic could slow down a local game.

Every single one of those things i mentioned above is a good thing with not one real draw back that paranoid people didn't imagine. FFS please try to look at things objectively and see that these are good features and not just an excuse to whinge over and over.

it better be opt in. i hate all this data mining crap there is everywhere. u cant goto the supermarket anymore without having to fill out a form to become a member.

lag is only an issue on online games.
