Well with the renewed hype, and drawing closer to the still unknown final release date...have you preloaded Half Life 2? Or are you still waiting/haven't gotten around to it?

Oh yeah, looking forward to be able to preorder today, hopefully

Edit: I mean over steam, and preferably gold edition as well

Not preordering, just going to get gold off steam.

if actualy preloaded 5 times because off reinstall
actualy i should have waited.
i actualy preloaded it again today for the last time
made a upgrade to raid0.

I have preloaded, but I'm not 100% sold on Steam just yet. Call me crazy, but I have a feeling some people may be unpleasantly surprised when the prices are revealed.

I’m preloading, but using the retail cd-key. Orgonomist You may be on to something or we might just be crazy...
Actually I just want the DVD copy, I know I could make one; I just want the "official" copy.

Pre-Loaded last week... didn't take as long as I thought it would. Just one question to those that pre-loaded early, what was the message you got at the end of the early pre-load stages?

PS I'm referring to the locked copy message, not the supposed joke ;)

Well it wasn't this :D

I'm considering preloading, but I'd rather see if the Steam packages have a decent price advantage over retail before commiting to either.

Talking about preloading hehe ;)

Anyway yeah I preload everytime they're available to download, I hog bandwidth for the fun of it :D

Exactly my situation. I dont exactly have to start playing the game the moment its released. I've been waiting for this game forever, so a few days extra wont hurt. There are now, what, 6?, versions, so I'll take my time to look at them when they're out there.
I myself wont buy the game off steam for an ideological reason, simply because I dont care about Gabe Newell, Valve or Vivendi.
The only thing I care for is getting my moneys worth, wherether that be a bargain-game-only or a goody infested one.

i dont like vivendi, they have delayed so many games that i like..or would like to like.....Evil Genius...being one of the,, which is finnaly coming out soon, i think. So im getting it off steam, so the good chums at valve can have most of the money instead of some stupidly small ammount of fvivendi after sales.

Preloaded a while ago. Just waiting for the steam packages to get available..

Echtilsomething,

What did you pay for you computer, its all custom stuff! Even the powersupply. Just curious.

Valve's disliking us for all that bandwidth abuse :cheese:

In the same way shop keepers hate lots of customers coming in and out of their stores.

Each download is a potential sale, I bet they look at the figures and :bounce:

I preload them as I see them on steam, I don't see why not if you have a good internet connection. It seems to be a lot simpler if you just buy the game off steam, and there's the possibility of the game being sold out in stores. Money's not an issue for me either :p

evil genious has been out for like 2 weeks

Just a question I had, Where are the HL2 preload files?! Steam says I have them but I can’t find them

I was the first person to pre-load the 1st batch of files... I can prove it. Ask anyone who was with me on the HL2.net IRC channel that night... good times.

you're name must be true!!!

seriously though, everyone will have to preload cs:s when it comes out "early" right? cept beta testers...then when they release steam packages, everyone will have to preload dod:s and hl:s.....unless valve cleverly has hidden the source upgrades amongst the hl2 preload.

I've preordered the CE as well as just preloaded yesterday. I really really want a hard copy CD version so I don't have to take 3 hours to download it again if I had to reformat. But with all the extra good stuff in the steam GOLD I may get it if the price is to my liking.

How does burning the downloades steam stuff work? I mean, all the files for HL2 are waaaay to huge for cds and I don't have a dvd burner just yet. will we be able to burn it to multiple cds as backup?

Im sketched about preloading it, since i get hl2 through the ati voucher... if i preload it will i still be able to get my hard copy mailed to me??

download a program like winrar(www.rarsoft.com)

add them to an archive, set the archive size to CD chunks(700mb or 650mb) compression to none. and voila. it will give you CD size chunks of your preload files. that you can burn.

Im gonna preload it onto my new comp

Preloading now would just be pointless

That's a good question!

It would be cool if we could preload it play it and then 4-6 weeks later have the hard copy arrive at our door steps...

nothing stopping you from pre loading, but you'd have to use the CD key from the boxed copy when you got it.

Getting it unlocked on steam and the hard copy would be the same as getting two copies... no?

nope im one of those few who have not preloaded when i needed to..something is weird with my steam and always freezes so imma do it a later

I really want to buy my game at the store. I just want to have the cds in my hand and not have to worry about backing up the game. Just a lot simpler.

BUT

I am considering preloading now because VALVe is using some interesting marketing by offering CSS this week and ...it's working to get to me to preload.

come on VU, release the game!!

If you preloaded hl2 then you already have CS:S (it was the last phase- 5th I think- of downloading, I didn't get it as I already had the beta)

And on the subject of steam being a bit pricey....
Well obviously I can't speak for hl2, but when cz was available thru steam I remember it was a lot cheaper to get a physical copy from a store than to buy direct from valve:(

However, regardless of how much extra it's gonna cost, I'm definitely getting it thru steam. I refuse to willingly let VUG have any of my money( plus I get to play a map other than dust on CS:S (early))
