I'm sure valve understands that CS is not everyones cup of tea and with the beta release os CS:S I think the fear that CS:S will be HL2's MP portion can be put to rest.

So we can all go back to dreaming what kind of cool stuff and MP features half life 2 will have. Mmmmm.


Standard Stuff First:

DM
TDM
CTF
LMS


Non Standard Game Modes:

Bug Bait - Players only have access to bug balls in a large bug hole filled arena. Like an RTS but from a FPS view.

Grease Pit - Just like normal DM or TDM but with the inclusion of vehicle. Keeps normal DM but also allows players to use vehicles online.

Scrapheap Showdown - A scrap yard littered with items from the SP game. Players only have the manipulator and must kill each other with the items or build traps for people to fall pray to. Like Spy Vs/ Spy.
 
If anything, I think Valve will only have DM, maybe TDM, and possibly a vehicle mode, like Onslaught of UT2K4. I guarantee you all of those other modes will be fun fun mods! :D
 
I just hope it has CTF.

Plain DM/TDM gets boring too fast.
 
I know, but I only say that because most people say thinking HL2 will have its own DM/TDM is optimistic.
 
Scrapheap showdown sounds VERY cool! But could put a pretty large bandwith strain on the server and players. But would be awesome. Someone should make that a mod asap!
 
I think they need somthing closely related to the single player...like this!:
2 teams, 1 is C17 resistance the other is Combine. The combine get all the cool vehicles and striders and scanners and everything, they could even have a commander...but C17 have experimental weapons like the grav gun, and other black messa weapons(maybe if it fits the story) but there main strength would be guerrilla warfare, there ability to sneakup on an enemy and quickly get out throuhg maybe a secret route.

The game would be objective based, none of the nonsensical kill fest BS. Some example: C17 has to blow up a communications building of the combine, start point of the attack could be random but there are lots of scanners around the city.
Another one, the Combine have just tracked down the building a leader of the C17 resistance is in and they have take him out. But the C17 got a tip off of the attack and have had time to prepare traps and excape routes.

Whats wrong with that? I don't mind one objectives based mode, but since CS:S already has that I think HL 2 should have some mindless fragging mode too.

There are enough mindless fragging games, and god do they get old. Besides, what is going to prevent camping? NOTHING, adding objectives also adds variety to the maps not just another location to kill 10,000 people in.

I'd love that...mmm..I just want a nice full co-op HL2, where you and about 5 other people go through all of the levels in HL2 SP, but that means more enemies. I'd love to play through the "Barricade" part co-op.

Sounds like it is in reference to half-life and not half-life 2.

But there are many people who like it. Thats why there should be a thing like your gametype and a mindless fragging gametype , to please everyone. :frog:

yesterday i asked shmozy to ask valve about HL2DM on his trip there today and he said he would, so maybe he will get some info
 
I would like to see a TDTS mode.
Take Down The Strider, where everyone helps out taking down one or more striders in different scenarios.

A bit like UT2004:s Invasion.

Oh man that sounds good. If this isn't what HL2 MP consists of, or if CS:S is the multiplayer part of HL2, then someone needs to make this a mod. Quickly!
 
one sweet gametype would be if it was a prison break or somethign where all the players didn't have weaopns except for 2 of the guards who had a buggy and a gun mounted on it or something. The map could have tons of little spots the buggy couldn't make it and the guards couldn't dismount. They'd have to drive the buggy and kill the prisoners who r trying to escape somewhere on the opposite side of the spawn.
 
I know alot of people here hate to see others express this opinion, but I too am thinking HL2 will not in fact have it's own seperate mp. Why, you ask? Well we are supposedly quite close to release, and even still Valve refuses to confirm or deny that they have an MP mode.

One of the more retarded comments I've read regarding this is that Valve "doesn't want to spoil the surprise of HL2 having it's own MP mode." This is just plain dumb as hell to say. How is that a surprise, when pretty much every single FPS released in the last 5 years has had it's own MP mode? That would spoil nothing.

It makes no sense for them to not at least say "Yes HL2 has it's own MP mode", unless they don't have one and don't want to dwell on it.

Like I've said before though I hope to be proven wrong on this, because we NEED a team-based Resistance vs. Combine MP mode set in City17. We just do.

At this year's E3, Valve showed off the multiplayer portion of Half Life 2, better known as Counter-Strike: Source.

Well, looks like I'm going to have to test either the single player demo of HL2, or have to test Counterstrike: Source, cause I hate the original counterstrike. The idea of it is great, but I think the game itself sucks... Source better have a whole different feel, or I won't be buying HL2, I'd play the single, then I'd be pretty much done...

This really sucks, if this is true, which I'm guessing it is, how can it not? I haven't heard about HL2's multiplayer...
 
i remember though when valve was talking about VAC(valve anti-cheat), they said VAC will work with both halflife 2 AND CS:S, why would they say halflife2, if there wasn't some hl2 mp.
 
The only thing that bugs me is the fact that if vavle doesnt have a mp for hl2 then that would make since why they dont say yes or no,because they know it would piss alot of people off and would be bad plublicty for its sales which adds up....but IMO vavle is smart enough (hopefully) to realise that not everyone likes cs and that making there own mp portion is the most wise thing to do....time will tell.
 
i hope theres a coop mode. not like the one you have heard wont be it and sven will be making, but like the one in aliens versus predators 1. you teamed up with other marine and pred players and killed the waves of bot aliens. i still cant forget many hours on the stranded level.
 
manipulator + buggy + dune = good multiplayer

in otherwords, we need vanilla hl2 themed DM/ctf/tdm or assault.
 
oh and wtf... cs;s better not be the only MP component.

aint valve been working with the sven coop people meaning that probably wouldnt take long to get a release out after launch.

Well valve did keep quite about multiplayer awhile ago and they still are. i think announcing the CS:S thing was to bring in the CS community interest into HL i know alot of CS players that arnt that bothered with HL/HL2 so the CS:S makes them want it more and they go buy HL2 and get CS:S. I doubt showing CS:S was all they had for offer with multiplayer, they do want to keep some stuff back. there may be a really cool HL2 multiplayer mode but i wouldnt expect much valve will leave alot of that up to the community.
 
hmm, leaving it up to the community, thats what im afraid of. can you imagine 30 different mod teams trying to make their own HL2MP mod? most would just plain suck. if valve truly isn't releasing a hl2mp, the mod community would need to form a very skillful group of modders that is recognized as the premier team to do hl2mp right and not some half-ass creation. know what i mean?

Maybe dod / tfc / cs / richochet / dmc / hldm :source plus a new HL2 multiplayer mode - With vehicles and without.

Thats just my guess who knows.
 
dmc/hl1/css/tf2 I can safely say are going to be available. Gabe said all are being ported to new source engine.
