i am building a new pc and i just bought the case today (takes so long to pick one) so here is what i am planing

case - got it at tiger cuz it looked cool

mobo - GIGABYTE "GA-8I915P Duo-A

CPU - Intel 775 P4 3.2GHz HT

Memory - 1GB PC-3200 ECC Registered

PSU - Ultra X-Connect 500W

GFX card - GF FX 5900 non-ultra OC'd

Hard Drives - 1x 160 Gb 7200, 1x 40Gb 7200 <--(for unreal)

Fan Controler - Macpower Black Digital Doc 5+ and 4-6 80mm case fans

I already have the GFX card, the hard drives, a CD-rw and a DVD.

so do you all think thats good? and am i missing anything?

Looks ok, personally i would opt for an athlon 64 as they perform much better in games. Also how about a 9800 pro?. And you dont need that ram!!, you just need normal 3200 ddr, if you are not overclocking crucial or corsair value is fine.

To be honest, a couple of things need to be changed.

- Get an Athlon 64 3200+ . Not only is it cheaper, but it is faster than Prescotts as well. Benchmark showing you the performance of the Prescott Processors
- You need a coresponding motherboard as well. I don't keep up with A64 motherboards, so somebody will have to give you a suggestion on that.
- You don't want ECC Registered RAM for your computer. Option 1 or Option 2
- That power supply looks pretty cool. If you can't locate that powersupply, Thermaltake, Sparkle, and Antec all make excellent power supplies. Don't hesitate to go with those companies.

The Xconnect PSU has recieved very good reviews so far from what I have seen, so if your happy with that then go for it.

This is the mobo I got for my new computer (AMD64 3200), and so far it has been absolutely wonderful.

FX SUCKS BALLS...get the 9800pro ...ITS FAR MORE SUPERIOR then the 5900

Nice case looks like it would have very good cooling.

Just interested though why you choose to take a p4 over the athlon 64?

Its your decision but personally I would not get the geforce 5900.

Ok it won't be THAT bad.

he can run it on high you idiots stop bashing the FX its not bad at all. only thing is that it will run in DX8.1, not 9. but the difference between the two is so little that you can really only tell if you take screenshots of both and then carefully compare. you WILL NOT tell the diff. ingame.

Hell yah u will The FX series is knoew for its Shittyness ...it sucks my firend has one HE PAID 250 dollars FOR AHAHHAAH and on Far cry he gets 15fps on high at 800*600 and i get 45 fps all VERY HIGH at 1024*760 RES ...SO HA

BTW: He has a faster processer than me..a 2.8 ghz

lol wow that was a lot of replys. yes i know my 5900 sucks but there is nothing i can do about it. i wont have a problem getting the PSU as teh tiger direct near me has about 500 (not kidding).

i am painting the case charcole black and doing a Hl2 mod :)

and i am going to look into the proseser... i like my intell and i have a laptop with an amd... lol also a pc i just upgraded has an 1.9ghz amd and it runs faster than this 2.0 p4, i just realised that today.

just one thing. why get non ECC??? and why not get a Gb of it?

also i dont know if there are any 64 mobo's that have agp and PCI-E.

hmmm, if i were you id get a Asus mobo, they are for the most part the most stable. but that mobo is nice.

and yeah, right now only intel mobos have PCI-E. In another 6 months everyone else will as well.

ok ill get a mobo now and then get a PCI-E when i get a new GFX card (which may be 50 years lol).

EDIT: but still why not get ECC? and why not 1 gb (i have 768 right now and i am still using it all)

Lol if i wear u i sell your 5900 and get the money for the 9800pro u wont regret it

Registered Memory: A memory module that contains registers that hold the data for one clock cycle before it is moved on to the motherboard. This process increases the reliability of high-speed data access. Registered memory modules are typically used only in servers and other mission-critical systems where it is extremely important that the data is properly handled.

Thus you dont get the best performance out of it. You will be better off buying two sticks of some nice corsair XMS Low Latency or some OCZ, cause once they come out with dual channel mother boards you will be set. Thats what I have right now and I dont regret it a bit.

ECC is SDRAM, right? yeah SDRAM is a thing of the past, get DDR ram its WAY better.

No they have DDR Registered Ram. And AFAIK DDR is a flavor of SDRAM. But either way your not going to get the overclocking/perfornance capabilities that you would get with regular non registered RAM.

wait so whats the diff. between SDRAM and pc3200/DDR400 RAM?

ok now that i know what i am getting, its time to pick how to mod it :D

i want to do charcole black for the case then Hl2 orenge on the inside. whick will look cool with green and blue UV reactive stuff inside...
