So how much is this going to cost me? Veilside Rx7

I think american manufacturers are more than capable of building really good cars that can surpass or be on par with most euro and jap cars. I just think they're too lazy to do so.

Let's look at the new cadillac CTS and the Cadillac 16 (although it's only a prototype)...simply amazing cars, why other american auto makers don't put in the same effort in as they did with those 2 is beyond me...also other cars like the dodge viper, corvette, ford GTO etc...it seems as though they put a lot of effort in their "supercars" if you will, and not so much in the mid price range cars..

This I partially agree with, but I think the situation with mid-price cars is slowly getting better in America, even when it comes to fuel consumption. Some examples of this can be: the Buick LaCrosse (although it's only available in Canada, I think), the CTS, as you already mentioned, the Chevy Equinox Fuel Cell concept is a great idea, the Ethanol-Powered Impala, Chevy Malibu, etc, theres actually quite a few of them.

yes, you're right. I hope they get back on track and start to produce even more quality cars.

I've yet to meet anybody in real life who thinks that the measure of a car's performance is by its acceleration alone.

This thread is full of internet.

Likewise, I'd be able to blow a stock RX7 into the weeds. What do you drive?

97 Integra LS/VTEC
Greddy Turbo kit
550cc injectors
Running either hondata or e-manage not sure yet(have e-manage right now..)
Crower valvetrain(GSR cams)

Shouldn't have a problem with a stock FD at all. Looking to put about 270-300whp down with no more than 15psi(18g turbo ftl!)

Hahaha, we're not just talking straight line acceleration. The RX-7 wasn't designed as a drag racer. I'd like to see you move that FWD Acura around a track as fast as an FD.

The RX's have great handling, except in rain or snow. I almost got an RX-7 but they still aren't cheap and since they were discontinued, the amount of good running ones are getting slimmer by the day.

Cant beat a manufacturer warranty

Side Note: Anyone wanna buy a 2004 RX-8? $17,500

At the flywheel, or the wheels?

Wheels of course. That power level should be attained easily with that amount of boost+what else is done to the car.

My friend with a 99 GSR hit 290whp on 9lbs with a drag kit stage 2, 57 trim, etc. So I'm not over looking right now, the head I have flows WAY better than him, 1mm oversized valves, etc. Plus the LS bottom end has some more displacement...

Yep of course the FD is going to take me on corners stock, uh huh...SURE!

I've got suspension aswell....

I gotta grab the video of how slow NA it was, had 3 bent valves on cylinder 4 at that time. When we took the head off the other week it had those 3 bent plus at least one bent on every other cylinder(9500rpm pwnt me) so it ate a lot of oil, I got the valves here some are just covered in oil/carbon build up.

Your classic muscle car big blocks will put out way more power than any LSx motor (assuming all motor vs. all motor). Ford 427/428/429, Chevy 396/409/427/454, Mopar 413/440/ and of course the 426 Hemi.

This information is mis-leading for a number of reasons. Which I will explain below ->

An LS2 is 364 Cubic inches. It puts out 405 wheel horsepower SAE corrected.

An LS6 (Not the LSx motor) is a 454 Cubic inch Big block that appeared in the 1970 Chevelle SS. It was rated at 450 Horsepower. (It put out closer to 500 to the wheel.)

405 WHP vs 500 WHP

Right now, you appear to be correct. However, I feel I must point out a few things.

1. There is a 90 cubic inch difference between the motors.

2. The big block motor ran on LEADED GAS. Roughly equivalent to 100 Octane! The LS2 can run on 87 Octane Gas.

3. No chance in hell that the big block could smog at that level.

Now, if I were to bring in the LS7, which makes 505 SAE corrected WHP, your argument is completely moot. Make no mistake, we are in the 2nd age of the muscle car. Don't think that old school muscle cars made "Way more horsepower". :smoking:

Not to mention the Small Block Chevy after market has the ability to get 600 WHP out of a 350 small block on pump gas.

This thread is overflowing with lulz. So many people with so little automotive knowledge. A stock RX-7 will pretty much blow anything anybody here drives into the weeds.

I beg you to put your money where your mouth is.

LS7 is the 454. ;)

I am sorry, but my information is correct. The LS6 was the 454 available in the 1970 Chevelle SS

And the LS7 (LSx motor) is a 427.
I never mentioned a BB corvette motor.

Check your facts. ;)

*Edit*

And besides, who are you?! You're just some Honda guy driving with a boosted Hybrid Motor! Nah nah nah!

*Sticks out tongue*

I'd leave the body alone. The rx7 is sort of like the supra in that it's design is already beautiful. Those two cars are the type that need suspension and wheels to look 'better', almost anything else will start making them look ugly.

Besides, nobody worth talking too is more impressed with body kits than engine/suspension/brake/drive train work. Take that money and make the car handle better, stop faster, accelerate harder, and sound nicer, just don't go wasting your money trying to make a great looking car look 'better'.

Yes, this is just my opinion.

While everything you said is true, a big block will still put out more power than any third gen (for clarification's sake) LS engine :). To your 600whp SBC line, any motor can do that. A SBF has just as big an aftermarket now and can easily put that much power down as well, as can mopars (but they are more expensive than the Chevys and Fords).

And I wasn't trying to brag, I was just saying I could easily smoke a stock RX7. I drive a 5.0 Mustang that puts down maybe 290 whp all motor.

But you see your argument comes back towards you again. There are big blocks putting out less than 200 horsepower.

And they have third gens in excess of 2500 horsepower, so both of our arguments are rather moot. Just saying, stock for stock, I would have the third gen. 427 vs a LS6 454 It's lighter, more emissions friendly, and revs higher. Of course, if I were building a third gen drag car, I would no doubt go with a big block, it's just more cost effective past 600 horsepower.

I don`t really know what your price range is, but I`d get a BMW M7 and this particular model has a really nice body kit and rims as well..i`d get rid of the spoiler tho or lower it at least but nonetheless it looks amazing:

bmw_m7_motorsport.jpg

That looks like shit dude!

Despite what people in this topic are saying...there are body kits which are actually good-looking...usually by being subtle and complimenting the look of a car instead of announcing the mods to everyone.

Take a look at this for example:
http://forums.streetfire.net/showthread.php?t=25340

Or in the case of an RX-7:

But that Veilside kit...I actually like it personally, but get ready to be called a ricer by just about everyone.

And who the hell ruined that BMW?!(I'm not a big fan of the 7-series...but anyone who rices out German land-barges is automatically on my hate list)

The 1st one looks real nice, the 2nd looks good as well.

Whats the "ricer" term everyone is using lol.

it's not that bad at all actually. It's still the 7 series...it's not like the body kit masks the original body lol...only thing is the spoiler and the tags..woooo big deal the guy can get rid of that no problem if he doesn't like it.

Either way im just saying although i'm against body kits, that particular pic isn't over the top in looks like some loser tuners do to their cars out there.

Whats a "spoiler" and "tags"?

This thread is overflowing with lulz. So many people with so little automotive knowledge. A stock RX-7 will pretty much blow anything anybody here drives into the weeds. Veilside is a highly respected tuner that does quite a bit of aerodynamic testing on their kits. Replacing the OEM steel panels with fiberglass is not going to do much to hinder performance. People who think that an FD RX-7 will be slow before or after this conversion are kidding themselves. It's a shame really that the Veilside car was featured in Tokyo Drift, because the kit was out for some time before the movie was made. Now it has a bad rep.

And since Asuka asked a simple question before this turned into a shitstorm, I'll give my opinion. Black outer panels with dark gunmetal grey midsection and door skins would look quite nice. Black and white looks classy too.

That looks VERY nice and thanks for the real reply.
