As the topic says I wanted to play through HL2 but I know that its a bit dated. I was thinking of downloading some high rez addon packs when i stumbled upon the Cinematics Mod. Has anyone used this? is it worth getting?

The fact that it changes the music and character models (some look better some look horrendous (silly Germans)) kinda makes me on the fence weather to get this or not.

If Cinematics mod is not the thing I should get then can some one point me in the right direction for which mods I should get?

BTW: I am not looking for some one to make the "don't add addons, thats not how it was ment to be played" argument. Higher rez textures never hurt anything.

I don't really care for the cinematics mod. Changes too much of the game and leaves it as not Half Life.

I suggest this.

With a new computer I'm assuming you'll be able to max settings and resolution, which in my opinion doesn't make HL2 look that dated at all....especially Ep2 which looks damn good.

Reason I even made this thread was because I was playing fallout 3 and the pixilated texture made me feel like the game was dated I then updated to the HD textures and everything looked awesome. Same when I ran HL2 except there was no clear way to get high rez textures and models without completely altering the game.

Anyways I've challenged my self to play through all the Hl2 and episodes vanilla style and get all the old and new achievements in one single go on hard mode.

If you have a Radeon 5xxx video card, be sure to go to 3D settings>Anti-aliasing mode and set it to Supersampling.
A very performance-impacting form of AA and it results in slightly blurrier textures, but in motion it looks beautiful.

I don't know any mods that improve visual quality, although it would be awesome if someone knows a way to reduce all LOD(objects fading in), using console commands I was only able to increase a few LOD distances, but the terrible pop-in is still there.

Cinematic mod is a waste of ****ing time, mainly because it's like 11 ****ing gigabytes and takes forever to download. The music is also overly cinematic and just comes off as cheesy.
