and I need to get a new one. My motherboard is a few years old, so it doesn't support pci-x. So recommend me a new video card. My budget is about 250-300 USD. :cheese:

I'll post a pic of what the glitch looks like when I get the chance.

so that's what it looks like.... kinda painful to see...

Yeah and only a few bucks more would've gotten you a twice as fast x1950pro.

Lol @ only $200.
You paid that much for obsolete tech.

My x1950GT was only $150.

ok, geez. I'm sorry I didn't want to get the latest and greatest for an old computer. ****ers. You couldn't be happy for a guy that upgraded from a mother****ing 9700pro. I don't ****ing care if you got a better card for cheaper. And I don't care if you think it's obsolete tech. Yes, I could've have spent a few extre bucks and gotten the x1950, but I DON'T ****ING CARE BECAUSE IT IS AN OLD COMPUTER. Assholes.

Looks like someone actually cares. And Z_Ryuken paid LESS for his card. Don't insult people for trying to point you in the right direction. Maybe you can still take it back or something...

It's great you got your new card, but you realize you will need new gear VERY soon. Better to save up for a new system.
I had a 9600 pro til 2 weeks ago.

Theres some new AGP-based card that came out or is coming out soon that will allow you to keep up with the pack for a while. Probably one of the last hurrah for AGP.

Those people could've helped BEFORE he bought the card when he asked for advice. Those idiots were acting like children and deserved to be told off.

Shit, why are you guys jumping all over him for what HE bought...damn rabid wolves.

yeah, rather then give any advice they come in and gloat.

In any case your problem is solved right? so the money wasn't wasted. Just save up for your next comp, since you may have to get a new vid card if your planning on getting the more recent motherboards.

well he did buy it retail so i cant blame him for not getting something better for a lower price online..

I wonder if any of the mockers can find an agp x1950..?

there was one at the CompUSSR i went to, but I told them I didn't need anything that nice. It was 300 bucks. A deal if I were building a new system without PCI-E...

Is that a card that you are just going to hold on to until DX10? Or are you actually going to keep it for awhile.

If it was the first option then I'd say it wasn't that bad of a buy considering you didn't buy online. Although it is too bad they didn't have the 256MB version at the store since it would be cheaper and give you the same performance (512MB would give better performance if we were talking about a faster card).

If it was the 2nd option then I would recommend taking it back and either 1)pay a little more for a lot more performance (x1950) or 2) buy a similar card online for a lot cheaper.

The card you bought is decent although for those who are familiar with the PC market know that by paying that much for that card in the store was essentially like paying for an Alienware PC but getting a Dell. Would work for what you want but not worth the value. I don't think the others in this thread wanted to insult you but just wanted you to get a better deal.

Example performance (although X1950 PCI-E version used)
AGP version used here

If you are happy with what you have then stick with it.

I'm going to be keeping this card for a while. I won't be building another computer for a few years, so I didn't want to go all out for an old computer. When I do finally get around to building a new computer(most likely a vista machine), I'll go for the latest and greatest. I know I could've bought it online for a lot cheaper, but I needed a card right away(lan party) and didn't have time to wait.
