how on eart does steam no i bought half life because on this machine i uninstaleld then reinstalled half lfie never once putting cd key in.

I thought maybe it took it from windows registry or something.

but on my other pc that was formatted not to long ago i jsut installed a fresh copy and then installed steam i let it update blar blar blar and i can play games on it now but i hav'nt put in a cd key?

if this has been said then 4give me sorry but i've just woke.

Steam checks after HL in your comp and if it finds HL it will take the HL cd-key and use it so you dont have to find your copy of hl just because it needs the cd-key

no your not geting what im saying

on my other pc i have NEVER entered a CD key EVER!!!!!

yeah it works flawlessly

i think other people should try this cos seriosuly i don't think u need a cd key to play onlnie theres no way my other pc could have retrived a cd key from newhere.

i had to enter a key on my other computer where i havent installed HL after a format. i think what happened is youre logging in with your same username which is already bound to the cd-key you had on your first computer, the one with the key in the registry, so you dont have to enter it again.

That's a good point, if you logged into steam on the second computer using your first log in details then it will not ask you for a key as you have already tied one to your account on the first machine.

If you created a second account on the second machine, then that's a different story.

yep i created a seperate username and log in info.

can i check my cd key in reg edit?

or use an app?
